Hi everyone,

I have been asked to sell an original lens converter in the UK by my brother in law. I have heard they are very rare, but just wanted to get some advice as to what it might be worth. I can't find any on Ebay etc (maybe I'm not typing the right thing).

I believe it's this one:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/fdeos.htm

and here:

Apologies for not being able to tell you more. I'll take photos when I get home and see if I can attach to this post.

I was thinking of having an official Canon Repair shop service it prior to sale too - any ideas of cost? Should they open it up and clean inside? Check optics?

It looks in great condition externally, no scratches.

Hopefully someone can advise me!

Thanks.

Yes, indeed, they are supposed to be rare, but work well with Canon FD tele lenses (only with those, it's not a general converter), as per list that is in the mir.com.my link. Price I think was several hundred $ (don't recall precise price). As to service, there is not much to service, the optics is a fixed group..

Actually, searching world wide on ebay.de there are quite a number of listings under "Canon lens converted FD-EOS". (ignore the "macro converters, no glass only macro)

prices are

899 Euro

632 Euro

450Euro

1246 Euro

966 Euro

578 Euro

767 Euro

So, it looks like it's not so "rare" anymore. I presume this is because FD lenses can now be adapted to mirrorless cameras with a simple, glass less adapter. So, Demand for the FD-EOS converter has probably dropped, since you can buy a mirrorless body for that money. You might have to adjust your price a bit.

Also, note that there is a little lever that can be screwed into the ring, to make it easier to move the aperture. Is that still around? Include it, if you have it (as described in the on the .my site, it can be screwed in at six different positions by first unscrewing one of the smalls placeholder screws.)

Hi Photonius,

Thanks for the info.

I was thinking of having a local Canon Repair facility give it an external clean. Then put it on the market at 650 GBP with a 'Best Offer' option.

There's only one for sale in the UK at 675 GBP.

Let's see how it goes!
