Just a couple of days ago I got a Lexar 64 GB XQD 2933x card for my D5. Today when I tried to format the card in the ca,mera I´ve got an error message; " Cannot format memory card. Card may be defective. Insert another card. My Sony XQD card worked without any problem in both card places... First I tried to use Laxars Image Rescue 5 and tried the secure format option there...After about 4 minutes formatting I´ve got an error message from the program; "An error occurred while formatting (-1)" After that I tried the other format options in the program the "Format FAT 32" and the card is working now... Should I use this card without any concerns or it would be better to get another one??? Have anybody similar troubles with the Lexar cards in the D5??? Thank You for your opinion about what to do now...

I have not heard of any XQD problems (design) with any card maker, with the D4/D4S/D5 cameras. Of course, that does not mean one can not be blessed with just the random bad card. Send in back to the seller for replacement.

I've used Lexar cards with no problems, but I agree that you might have gotten a bad card.

My suggestion is to contact Lexar about the problem. They should offer to exchange the card for another one.

Many thanks to All of You for the answers! I will contact the warehouse and I will try to get another card because I am afraid that this card could be a defective one despite the fact that it is working now...

This could be unrelated but here's my story the other day. I had Card Err reading. Lexar XQD 32gb in one slot, Lexar 32gb 1000x CF card in other in my D4. Neither would work one morning. So I tried one at a time, neither worked. Obviously camera is functioning aka focusing and menu, but will not take photo since no memory card is functioning. I took my other old Sandisk 16gb CF card I had in bag and put it in solo. It worked and everything was 100% functional. So then I put my Lexar XQD card back in and everything still worked even this same XQD card that didn't work before. Now both cards are working, but the Lexar 1000x that was originally in there does not work still and is not recognized by computer.

My story might give you something to try, grab another CF card, remove existing cards and try other card just to get your camera to (reset?) itself from card use and then try the old one again. If one is dysfunctional perhaps it makes both not work even if temporarily.

Thank You for the head up! After all the trials and formatting the card with the Image Rescue 5 the card is working properly. The Sony card was working all the time and sure I tried the Lexar in different card bays but nothing helped. Right now the card is working properly... Still a little confused what to do... Exchange it or not...

I had a similar problem when first using the card. I powered the camera off and on and tried again and it worked. No problem since. It happened on every Lexar card I had on the first use.

To Ted, Thank You for the answer! Yes I tried to switch off the camera and I took the battery out but it did not helped in my case... Anyhow the card is working now...

I had exactly the same problem. I bought two 64 GB Lexar cards for D5. One formatted okay - the second one would not. Tried the "faulty" one in a D4s and it formatted without a problem and is shooting fine.

Thank You for the answer! After the formatting in the D4 does it work in the D5 too??? Mine is working after the formatting in the Rescue 5 but I am a bit worried anyhow... I hope that the incident was something like an "accidental episod" and it would not repeat itself again...

Believe it or not, I didn't try it! I will try it again and let you know.

I don't think I would trust it though!

Thank You!

I have now tried it - and yes it is working on the D5!

Thank You for the good news! After hesitating for a while I sent back my card for an exchange... My Lexar XQD 128 card working without any problems! Have a nice day! best regards; Laci
