Panny Gx7 rear wheel problem

Hi there,

My GX7 has developed a very annoying fault with its rear wheel. Basically, it has an intermittent fault whereby turning it has either no effect at all or adjusts e.g. the exposure compensation in the wrong direction (e.g over instead of under).

I did return it to Panasonic and, after receiving it back, the problem appeared to be cured, but after a few months it has returned as bad as ever.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so has anyone found a way to cure it? I've heard that cleaning it with alcohol or directing a powerful blast of air at it may be solutions.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

this is what happened to the EM1 rear wheel problem. Just use the camera

My GM5 developed exactly the same symptoms a month or so ago. Sent it to the UK Panasonic service agent (DKAVS) who replaced the control wheel entirely. Took a few weeks for the part to arrive which seemed like a good excuse to go out and buy a GX80 as a 2nd body :-) Got it back this week and it seems fine now. Just hoping I don't get the problem recurring like you have. When you sent yours back, did they replace the wheel or just clean it?

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your reply. Panasonic didn't say what had been done when I sent it back. Yours is the best excuse I've ever heard for buying a new camera! Cheers.

Have the same problem, beginning after 6 months of use in one of our 2 GX7. Sent it in for repair (in Europe we have 2 years of warranty), got a mail nearly three weeks later the day before yesterday, that they are waiting for a new part - they seem to exchange the complete top of body.

I hope for the best. Peter

Pana will cut expenses by delaying service even more, if they read this.

Yep, my thumbwheel went faulty ages ago, but works just fine in certain modes. Tho' exp' comp' can only be adjusted when in 'iA' mode. Seems electrical to me not to be fixed with a quick blast of air; you'd be nuts to squirt WD40 in there.
