Dear all,

I have been looking around for something similar but I haven't found anything.

One of the biggest weaknesses of micro 4/3 is represented by night photography. Even looking on the web, it's pretty hard to find good milky way shots taken with micro four thirds cameras.

I am trying to put together the list of the best lenses for astrophotography for micro 4/3 and a collection of good astrophotography pictures taken with this format.

What do you think are the best lenses for astrophotography for this format?

Are you willing to share the best astrophotography shots you took together with a description of the camera settings and tools that were used to achieve the shot?

It can be a pain. A fast very wide lens can be pricier on a M43, and using an EVF is not as nice as an OVF in some sky shots at night. But people get good results:

See here for some practical advice: http://www.lonelyspeck.com/lenses-for-milky-way-photography/

And some M43's have modes that can be very helpful. Like the live composite on Olys. Good for star trails.

I rather wish Oly could develop a way to use the sensor shift to compensate for star rotation, as Pentax does with Astrotracer, but maybe someday.

Em5 mark 2, 12-40mm @ 12mm, f2.8.8, Iso adjusted to get best exposure, around 1600 within an hour of town, I push it to 5000 in dark skies like the first image below. I have no problems using m43 for astro.

Panasonic Leica 15/1.7, Olympus 8/1.8, Samyang 12/2 and Olympus 12/2.

Oly 7-14/2.8 could probably handle some starry skies as well, but at f/2.8, you need to push ISO higher.

I follow a guy on flickr that did some impressive astro-scapes, check out his album .

I use the Rokinon (Samyang) 12mm f2.0. The aspherical lenses deal with COMA very well. I usually shoot F2.0, ISO 1600 at 20 sec. as a base. Get pretty good results.

But is all I did was astrophotography, I would shoot FF, maybe Sony. It is still about the lenses and the Rokinon WA primes are great for the price.

I use the 12-40 pro or 7-14 pro they are OK you can just squeeze something out at ISO 1600, and 3200 is better...but noise is an issue.

I tend to do big panos with them...so when downsized...everything improves

hoping a 12mm f1.2 makes an appearance soonish

and noise improves with next em1 then we'll be cooking.

12mm isn't really wide enough for full bow stuff...and then if you want to stack and average for noise reduction...takes a long time to make one shot makes trying different compositions hard

Battery also goes flat pretty quick on long exposures

Here are a few pics done with the EM-1 and the 12-40. For the star trails I used Live Composite....about a 40 minute exposure with some light painting. The Milky Way shots were made using 25 and 30 second exposures. I usually process so as not to have blue skies.

Beautiful set. I also am a firm believer in M4/3 for astro photography.
