After waiting two months, I received the ECG-4 Pen camera grip. While it's heavy, I was hoping that it would improve the camera's "handleabillity". It did, but at what a price. Just try to take the SD card out of it's slot. You need a needle nose. Lousy design. Back it goes. Anyone else have this problem?

I do not have the problem.

The whole fiasco with the grips in both PEN and OMD camera lines is what made me turn to Panasonic.

Pana doesn't get the hand grips right on every camera - but at least they try. And they do not demand a ~$100 optionally-mandatory surcharge for it.

I am still waiting for my Silver Pen-F, forever on back order, but I was considering the Gariz half case. It seems to have a small grip to it. I plan to use my Pen-F mainly with primes. Has anyone tried a Gariz case?

I haven't but Mike has & owns both the Olympus & Gariz grips & works for Olympus. You can message him here. He responds pretty fast https://m.facebook.com/mike.boening.7

Yes, i have one .

The Gariz case is very high quality .

The SD card for me is not possible to remove

with the case on but I use the cable most of the time .

The case really is extremely well made and I will keep it .

The Gariz looks like a viable option to the grip for a Pen-F. Am I seeing the images correctly, that the bottom plate of the Gariz has incorporated a center-left tripod mount? I've heard people kvetch about the camera's tripod mount being placed too closely to the lens mount so this alternate tripod mount seems a handy improvement.

I noticed that mount location as well which is another plus for the Gariz.

I have the Gariz case and it's great. I can get the card out but you have to grip the sides of the card and carefully pull it out. Not easy. Nonetheless, the grip stays on since it makes the camera handle so much better and relocates the tripod mount to a sensible location. And it looks amazing!

I actually love the grip for the Pen-F. It balances quite well with the 12-40F2.8 Pro lens. I found the card hard to get out either way, with or without the grip so I'll be taking it off to get to the card. No big deal with 32GB/64GB cards. When doing landscape and night work, I like to shoot on a tripod so the Arca type plate is perfect for me. I'm sure the same problem will exist with the upcoming RRS grip/plate combo.

When I just take the PEN-F out with the PL 15mm, it goes naked.

When I had the Pen F, I had the Gariz grip. I posted some pictures with it in this thread over at mu-43.

I think the grip works better with the black Pen-f, IMO.

Yeah, I go back and forth on Black or Silver, I honestly like them both. I agree that the Gariz looks great on the black. Hmm, maybe I need to change my order. Black is also on backorder at Adorama which is where I ordered from.

I like ECG-4 a lot and it stays now permanently on my Pen-F. But you are right - the grip makes removing SD card more difficult. I made a comparison test and repeated the process half a dozen times. With F and ECG-4 it takes 4-5 seconds to open the cover and pull the card out when it takes just a couple of seconds to do that with Pen E-P2 or E-P5. I have slender fingers which certainly is an advantage in this case.
