I've owned the Sony's 50mm f/1.8 for quite some time , really loving the speed and sharpness .
I've also recently got the Samyang 12mm f/2 for my wide angle shots , exceptional sharpness .

Now i feel im missing some range "inbetween"or "beyond" .
Sharpness and low distortion are some of my priorities since my expections are at primes .

Hopefully someone could suggest a sharp lens and hopefully with AF to replace the kit lens & another for Telephoto . I live in Singapore , so i should have easy access to almost all lenses available , preferably good value lenses because i shoot quite casually ! ^^

Sharpness, low distortion, low budget?

18105 is sharp, combines wide to tele range in one lens with f4, but has distrortion that needs to be corrected incamera/PP.

1670 is sharp in the center, quite expensive and has a certain risk of being decentered.

2870 is good value but lacks wide range.

16-35f4 is expensive, heavy but might be interesting to you.

So hitting all three is not possible imho.

Have you checked out the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM yet. Google a few review of that lens.

Pick up a Sony 18-105 for well lit shooting, range, video and use the Sigma 18-35 for everything else. It's like having a 2 lens system with the Sigma 18-35 being three prime lenses all in one zoom lens. It is made for Sony APS-C mount. Just something to consider ;)

According to DXO , the FE28-70 receives the highest score for an intermediate zoom range lens on an A6000. What's more, you can pick one up for under $300 on e-bay. You do give up a bit of range, but it's also a little smaller and lighter than the 18-105 that others have suggested.

well accordingto DXO, 18-105 scores 9 in sharpess and 28-70 scores 8 f.y.i.

The 28-70 also isn't wide enough for APSC, IMO. 18mm I find tight at times with my 18-105G, 28 would be a nightmare. The 18-105G I find is great for the vast majority of what I shoot, it's a great lens.

Sharp and in between the lenses you have: what about a 30mm f2.8 Sigma? There is also a new one coming in 1.4 I believe? Also they say that the Sony macro 30mm f3.5 is good. The 19mm f2.8 from Sigma might also be interesting?

And far out of my price range, but maybe no problem for you: for the telephoto, the Sony 70-200 f4 is among the best out there - and seeing that you prefer the sharpness of your primes you might like that one better than the 55-210kit lens?

Another option, also expensive, could be the 85mm gm lens?

Of course you could get an adaptar and venture into the Canon lenses too...

Good luck choosing :) Will you let us know which one(s) you choose?

What camera were they tested on because that changes the result, doesn't it?

Yes it does. When both mounted on an a6000 the 18-105G scores a sharpness score of 9 P-MPix while the 28-70 scores 8 on an a6000.

You picked the one metric on which the 18-105G outscores the 28-70. Overall, the dxomark is higher for the latter. I am not arguing for one or the other, just "truth in advertising"!!

Right, you already mentioned above that the 28-70 received a higher overall score. My reply is to the question from dquangt for clarifying which camera was used. I'm not sure what "truth in advertising" was being misrepresented by my reply but all of the above is accurate.

There seems to be a new lens that gives APS-C FF IQ and incredible sharpness from f1.8 up!

http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compa...-F18-DC-HSM-A-Canon__1215_942_1084_942_1141_0

Can anyone (PLEASE) tell me if the This Lens (check the Field Map) will work mounted on the a6300? If it does, it looks like it could replace the Sony 20, 24 & 35mm primes AND get better IQ/sharpness than any of those 3 primes. Not to mention, save a lot of money, need to swap lenses or carry 3 separate lenses. If that lens will work with the a6300, it would be the ONLY lens capable of bringing APS-C very close to FF IQ, IMO. It seems too good to be true, that is why I am asking. Talk about the perfect low light, super sharp event type of lens, OMG!

I wonder what the differences in AF performance are, as well as with the Canon mount version. It seems strange that Sigma claims AF-C will not work with their adapter, I wonder if it works with any of the others available

The lens that should be the 'kit lens' is the F4 16-70. Mine stays pretty much glued to the camera.
It's a piece of overprized crap. Here is a good example, 24mm, 1/200, F10. Look to the right, the line of sharp/un-sharp is where the crack is.
There are some very good copies of the 16-70ZA and I have one :-) Like owenleve, mine pretty much lives on my A6300.

But if you get a bad copy, it can be really bad. Serious QC issues with the lens mean any buyer should test the heck out of it and have a good return option -- until they find a good one.

However, your copy may well be an "piece of overprized crap" (though since yours does not sound at all "prized" you may have meant "overpriced"). I bought mine used from a friend who went full-frame (A7R II) for $650, a more reasonable price -- and since I'd used it already, I knew I was getting a really fine copy.

You may want to consider the oft-maligned 16-50 kit lens. It can be found for $150 US or so, and can give surprisingly good results. Certainly not of prime quality, but I enjoy mine. It's small size and power zoom (great for videos) make it rather special. Even with the other lenses I have, I still use my 16-70 fairly often.

Even if the Sigma Sony mount only works in AF-S mode, it is to short a focal range to need AF-C and tracking. To me, it would be a great low light solution for many 'Event' shooters. If you could get better IQ/sharpness than the Sigma 30 from 18-35mm at f1.8 (check Field Map), I think it would be a GREAT lens. It would also replace 3 primes without the need to change lenses and give better IQ.

BTW, looking at the P-Mpix numbers, it looks like it is the only lens that alows APS-C to come anywhere close to FF resolution. This lens seems to be a major game changer in the Sony version, for APS-C MICL shooters, IMO.
