I used the LE AE4 adapter and I just cropped the photos. This was lots of fun and I hope to improve. Suggestions welcomed.

This is my first picture post. Thank you for looking.

I think that it is possible to get a better result overall with the A6300 (APSC 24Mp).

Here my advice (setting) :
  • photo at first quarter
  • ISO 100 to 200
  • shutter speed : 1/160 to 1/200s
  • Aperture : F7.1 (+/-)
  • 10s delay to avoid vibrations
  • EFCS on
  • tripod
  • No stabilization
  • manual focul with magnify 13x
Then here what I got with an A58 (20Mp camera) :

Sony A58 (20Mp) + Tamron 70-300 : bad weather (a lot of clouds around) and moon very low in the sky
Sony A58 (20Mp) + Tamron 70-300 : bad weather (a lot of clouds around) and moon very low in the sky

Sony A58 (20Mp) + Tamron 150-600 : good weather, moon very high in the sky
Sony A58 (20Mp) + Tamron 150-600 : good weather, moon very high in the sky

If you want moon relief avoid the full moon. A tripod and a remote control is highly recommended. Avoid the lens stabilization. I would suggest to use the LA-EA1/3 instead of the LA-EA2/4.

Thank you for all the great tips. I had two long days at work and will take out my 6300 tonight. This is what makes photography fun!

But tonight it is full moon : you will not be able to catch any details, the moon will be totaly white without any shadows. The best moment is around first and last quarter.

yes, that's right. Full moon shots are pretty uninspiring. You need shadows across the surface to see the craters.

The bridge camera superzooms will outperform most cameras here except those with very big and expensive lenses.
As yesterday it was full moon (so really useless to take photo), I tryed Jupiter.

This is the result of 40 photos stacked with REGISTAX (ISO 100 and 200 and shutter spped from 1/125 to 1/200). I think that with an A6300 the result should have been better. The red spot was not visible when I took the photos.

Sony A58 + Tamron 150-600 at 600mm, 40 photos stacked (ISO 100 to 200)

Great Jupiter shot!

I must try. Dowloading the REGISTAX software.

Thanks, and you can do the same thing with the moon.

Example of PP :

Left one of the best frame ; middle PP with all the frames ; right PP with only the best and more contrast
Left one of the best frame ; middle PP with all the frames ; right PP with only the best and more contrast

Then a full moon photo (yesterday).

No shadows ... so no detail.

the best moment to take nice photo is at first quarter or last quarter.

1. Very heavy crop, taken with Nex 5n in 2013.

2. "Supermoon" of 2015. Nex6.

3. So called "bloody moon", taken in 2015 with Nex 6.

All pictures taken with Minolta 500/8 AF

Nothing spectacular, I know.

a 500mm lens with 2X multiplier to see the craters on the moon surface.
