Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the Sony and Hasselblad.

The biggest question is if there is any difference in image quality between the two lenses? If they are basically the same why would anyone buy the Sony for twice the price? I have not received my A6300 so I can not test the lens but the zoom feels smooth.

I ordered the Hasselblad for $149 from B&H (Sony is $298). The first difference I find is the Hasselblad packaged lens does not include the ALC-SH112 Lens Hood (I got a used hood from KEH for $4.00 LN). Also the Hasselblad has a shipping protector over the rear of the lens but not the actual rear lens cap. The lens has "Hasselblad" printed on it and has a Sony front lens cap.

No real differences - both come out of the same plant. As you mentioned, the Sony comes with the hood and the Hassy doesn't - but hoods are cheap. Remember, the Hassy version USED to cost something stupid like $1500...despite the fact that it was the same Sony lens...now that Hassy pulled out of this end of the market, a lot of their stuff went on fire sale, and some ended up cheaper than the Sony equivalents...it's just because they're no longer making the Hassy-branded ones and are just trying to clear out stock.

The only possible difference in 18-55mm lenses - and this might just be a rumor or a forum urban-legend...but some believed that the very first batches of 18-55mm lenses that came out with the original NEX-5 and NEX-3, which had 'made in Japan' on them, were better...and all later 18-55mm lenses came out of their Thailand plant. I don't know if any of that is true...I do happen to have one of the Japan lenses that came with my original NEX3, and it's a good copy, but I haven't seen anything definitive showing that Japan versions are better than Thai versions.

You noted you have a good copy of the 18-55. How would you say that compares to the 16-50PZ. I'm assuming you have one with your a6000.

Unfortunately, I can't compare - I bought my A6000 as body-only mainly because I intended to just use my 18-55mm. If I get the A6300, I'll also buy body-only.
