300 F4 and Birds in Alaska

Fortunately I have never paid any interest ever on any Credit cards, so high interest rate on them never concerned me. I just pay them off when balance is due.

Thanks for sharing Wally. It is hard to tell quality with dpreview , perhaps you could post somewhere else.

I would be interested in a comparison with the 43 version...sharpness, bokeh, focusing, etc. I am also one of the odd fellows that use the DTC ...how is the quality in this instance?

It will be awhile before I get thus lens...it is botany season now and I am loving the 60 mm macro.

i think this lens might compliment my current Arsenal of optics, time will tell.

Good for you. I do not use mine at all for the purchase of camera gears. Usually, I buy used when I can, and always sell something else to make the new purchase.Camera gears depreciate much too fast for me to tie up my money.

Thanks for the clarification..
Those are some fantastic shots! Great light for photography and like the iridescence on the cormorants😃.Steller's Eider is lovely, impressive details, despite being an extreme crop.

The bald eagle shots are outstanding! The eagle is perched on the same precipice as you had posted in your first lot, a few days ago, is it not? This also shows how good light can transform the image, not that the previous image was poor by any standard, being taken under dull weather.. But, here the details are superb, that too for a distant shot😃
Well, I have to admit, it is a different perch, All the regular eagle crags start looking like that with grass after generations of eagles using them as perches, leaving nutrient rich leftovers and fertilizer on top. This perch was even closer, and I was able to fill the frame with the bird, at least at 420mm.
That's good to know..
I am spoiled here, I see eagles here as often as urban dwellers see pigeons.
You are indeed lucky... Not just for the eagles but those pelagic birds too..

Really nice set Wally! I'm jealous of all you 300mm owners. I'm also jealous of your location. :-)

I really want a return visit to Alaska, before I get too old to really enjoy it -- but not sure when that will happen. If I lived where you are, I would make a second career out of shooting eagle photos -- they are such majestic looking birds -- even when sitting on dumpsters. :-D

I look forward to seeing many more eagle photos with that 300mm -- of course, then there are the Sea Otters, Puffins, Moose, etc., etc..

These were shot at fairly low shutter speeds. I wonder what they'd look like with shutter speeds 2-3x higher. Maybe they'd be the same due to the stabilization being so good....well, assuming the subjects in these shots were not moving, no wind; etc.
