First of all, I needed a small, lightweight camera for traveling. I am 73 and recently closed my last of two full-time studios. During the last few years I have been doing two or three major motorcycle rides across the country. I used to take my Nikon D700 with two lenses but it my camera system just took too much room. I bought two "M's" off Amazon and couldn't be happier!

I find the menu or "quick menu" so easy to use, one of the easiest touch screen menus to use. My old eyes have a hard time with the Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony menus. Some menus are just plain complicated. Getting off the bike and taking a quick picture is much easier to do with my "M". If someone questions my honestly about being a full time photographer all they need to do is go to my gallery.

There is really a lot of "crap" on this forum as well as any of the forums. I was just reading on this very same forum about a guy complaining about the "sync speed of the M flash". The guy was arguing about basically 1/3 of a stop sync speed. He said he needed the higher sync speed to overcome daylight or whatever that meant. I used flash outdoors in bright sunlight and "never" exceeded the sync speed of flash. I used 30% flash fill using a Seconic flash meter. Sometimes in bright, back light portraits, I needed 20% to 50% flash fill to get a natural picture but I could always set my exposure with my Seconic meter.

Ok, back to the "M!" Sure the camera might focus a little slow but that has never been a problem with me. Many times a use the manual focus feature and always had pictures in focus. Remember even today Leica makes some of the finest lenses that have to be focused manually. The problem is that today all the newbees to photography never had "film" experience and never had to focus manually!

To this day I think the "M" is just about as good as camera out there. Better auto focus would hep with a smaller focusing spot and a built in eye level finder would be nice also. Remember whatever camera one uses there is always something to wish for!

After reviewing my pictures, I noticed that two of them were done by my motorcycle companion! He took an DSLR canon with a 50-300 canon lens as well as a second lens. It took up a lot of his luggage space. all the pictures with just the shutter speed was taken with the "M", sorry!

All of these images were taken by the "M". Sorry about the two Canon DSLR images! I have not posted or uploaded pictures in a long, long time.

Excellent set of photos. I think that many would agree with you, its just that this being a 'gear' site, photography isn't necessarily the prime motivator for comments.

Enjoy your travels Bill

Nice set of images, and very well written.

I am 83. I have an M3. You are right on. I have a 7dII and I am still active shooting swim meets but I use the M for everything else. The 22m, the 11 24, the kit lens and the 55-200 fill a small bag.. The 22 mm is great when not taking the whole kit and I generally keep EVF mounted. I am stlll an active competitive swimmer. Keep biking you too can grow up to be 83.

The presented photographs are what the camera was developed for and where it convinces. Even when the focus is not always perfect (difficult scene with the bisons), the images are pleasant.
