Capture One Pro for Sony ($50). Not sure about controlling focus from the laptop, but there's a free full feature 30 day trial.

Hello,

I also want to know if it is possible to remotely move the focus on the Sony A7R2.

I want to be able to shoot images for focus stacking by moving the focus a bit on my laptop before each shot.

And I don't want to move the focus by touching the camera to avoid shake.

Can the Capture one software do that? or any other software?

Thank you

Any reason why you all don't just use the smart remote app and your phone or tablet? Seems a lot less cumbersome than a laptop and we know it works. I've been using it for a couple of years.

Isn't there a free Windows program from Sony for that, or did I dream that I installed and tested such on my old PC?

Isn't it slow?

It works with wifi only, right?

I am imagining shooting a every second a new RAW image 42mp big (for focus stacking i shoot one after the other right away)

and this has to go with wifi to my tablet, and then i need to connect the tablet to my pc for lightroom editing, i think it is much more simple if you can shoot from your computer

Does anyone know if the capture one software can move the focus on the A7R2?

Thank you

It's not slow, but I never used it to save images on my phone. I would imagine it would be slow if you are trying to transfer files to your phone on the fly, but that would be the case for a wired connection too. I use the app as a pure remote and turn auto save off. You have live view and access to aperture, focus, shutter spreed and ISO depending on what the dial mode is set to. The raw is saved to the memory card in the camera. From there, the workflow is normal.

I have tested shooting through capture 1 pro but I don't remember being able to change focus manually, I think you can only Af and switch between Af and mf

I'm talking about the smart remote app, not Capture 1.

My problem with using the smart remote app is that i like to be able to have the images on my pc instantly right after shooting,

is it possible to shoot with the smart remote app on a tablet, and at the same time have the camera connected to a computer so i can view the files from the SD card right after shooting?

is it possible to work with the smart remote app and the capture one together? this way i can view my picture in big on my computers live view, while i can also change the focus on the smart remote app?

Thank you

I tried to use the smart remote app

to shoot in RAW

every picture takes about 12 secs to finish processing ( and i don't have the option to save it on the tablet on, it just saves on the memory card)

thats long when i want to do focus stacking for many items

i tried to shoot with out the app, and it takes about 5 secs

do i do anything wrong, or thats normal?

Thank you

I'm not sure what you are doing wrong, but that seems ridiculous. When I use the app, it takes a couple of seconds to process each image. For the record I never load raw directly to my phone. I do sometimes download a jpeg for posting to social media or sending an email. I have no interest in downloading raw files after each shot to my computer or tablet. I would much rather download a batch when I am ready to post process. I also have the A7r not the A7rII so my files are smaller. Maybe the reason the process takes long for you is because of one of the aforementioned differences.

I still don't get why you need to have raw files transmitted real-time, but see what happens if you turn off the save to phone/table option. It's not exactly what you want, but it may be your best option at the moment.
