Hello, this is an "executive summary" of the review I wrote 2 years ago. This P7800 has the typical high ISO shortcomings of a small sensor and has slow writing speed (1.5sec Raw + jpeg with a fast card). Everything else though is great if you want a well specified camera that fits in a jacket pocket. I take it with me everywhere and it particularly shines in very cold weather when I keep it warm and handy in my parka outside top pocket on a very light neck strap. Up to ISO400, and even ISO800 in good light, with its Raw files processed in DxO OpticsPro, I can get very good prints up to 16x20". I always bracket +-1 stop but most of the times don't need HDR and use only 1 frame even in high contrast situations. I particularly like its sharp lens with its near perfect zoom range (28-200mm), the completely articulated LCD, and the more than usable and often life saving EVF. There are a good feature set, level of outside controls and solid construction too. In the P7800 category, the industry is moving toward larger sensors which is good for IQ but reduces portability and zoom range. I am still quite happy with this camera and would not know with what I wound replace it (the P8000 never materialized).

The P7800 has turned out to become my favourite camera at work.

Product shots where I need a deep depth of field are easy with the small sensor.

I use the custom settings to easily repeat specific set-ups with fixed focal length and exposure.

For lighting I use radio triggered studio strobes or speedlights.

For the quick shots for documenting something, a Nissin i40 speedlight in the hotshoe, bounced off whatever is available works just perfectly.

For shooting at odd angles the hinged LCD is very welcome.

It has a filter thread to mount a polarizer.

Not to forget the lens, which is sharp as hell.

We use the images on the web, print brochures and product information posters.

I agree, It does it's specific job very well.

If you like the P7800 as much as I do mine, you may really love the Coolpix A. I know that it is growing on me!
