I was in search of a camera for macro photos of flowers, insects etc and purchased refurbished Olympus XZ-1. XZ1 is my favorite camera for portraits and 1cm macro mode is also excellent. Lens is F1.8-2.5 which is superb.

I use SX50 for birding but then I thought of trying sx50's super macro mode and I surprised! SX50 has 1cm supermacro mode same as Xz1 but it also has more than that.

What a really like about sx50's super macro (s m) mode over xz-1 is:

1) ability to zoom in s m mode

2) can use flash in s m mode

3) 1cm minimum distance remains same even after slight zooming so its excellent

4) 24mm wide angle vs 28mm fixed of xz1

5) Tilting screen of sx50 is a must for sm and low angle photos

6) Both shoot RAW but sx50 has more depth of filed because of F3.4

7) Image quality is just slightly better in xz1 but then sx50 is also good.

8) Birding photos, family shots, and super macros all are in one package , sx50 is a excellent all rounder camera.

Now I like my SX50 more than before. XZ-1 still remains with me for its superb fast lens and size.

thanks

Great to see you're pleased with the SX50. It certainly is a versatile camera. I'm currently enjoying my second SX50 because my first failed after several years of excellent service. It's the best point-and-shoot camera I've ever owned......twice!

Wishing you continued success and happiness with your SX50!

Best regards,

Tony

My wife and I make the perfect point-and-shoot photography team. She points and I shoot!

Thanks, I seen your photo gallery and you have superb photo collection of SX50.

SX50 is my 2nd purchase as i replaced it for Fuji HS30EXR.

HS30 is faster camera and manual zoom, EVF is great, but image quality of sx50 is better,So i sold it and purchase sx50 again.

So now I have my third olympus XZ-1, and second SX50.
