Just about to order my first Blurb book. I picked them due to price and the fact that I can construct the book within LightRoom.

But I just realised that they have different paper choices.

Anyone got experience of each paper type and how they compare to other common types?

Is is worth getting a swatch?

I have always used the normal paper with All my Blurb books. Personal book and Wedding Books and am quite Happy with it.

if you like thicker papers then I have been told the Matte is quite good.

Get the standard grade. I just paid a premium for the most expensive paper and can barely tell any difference from what I received with standard paper last year.

Thanks Jim.

I decided to order a swatch to check quality side-by-side.

But the delivery may take 3 weeks as it's coming from the US (I'm in the UK)

I hope the final book delivery time isn't so long. If the book is printed in the UK, then I hope they use the same paper that is in the swatch!

I just received the swatch - there is a marked difference between the standard paper and the others. The standard is too thin in my opinion.
The book I'll be producing is a wedding album for my nephew so I'll leave it up to him to choose from the samples in the swatch - but I'll be recommending he does NOT pick the standard.

As mentioned by another, get the Standard grade. I have used the Standard and "de-luxe" and IMHO - the Standard (cheapest) was the best. So, have stuck with that for all books via Blurb.

Yup.. there IS a big difference in how the images are printed between standard photo paper and the better quality proline papers... it depends on your images and style - but I have found the Profline uncoated (with matte finish) to be superb for fine art images while the proline pearl with that lustre finish is great for regular photography.

Enjoy.. but don't forget to use one of the coupon codes floating around... believe the latest is QUEST35... that's 35% off!

Enjoy!

Thanks fuego6!

Just placed the order - only 22 pages but hopefully it will be ok. The coupon code was displayed at the top of the blurb site too :)

I was clearly informed by Blurb that the UK and US printing process use exactly the same paper - so the swatch I received from the US should match my book printed in the UK.

I just got a notice that the book has been despatched. The pick up location on the tracking page shows it is coming from Holland :) :) ..... I wonder if they use the same paper ???

Standard Paper gets printed in Holland. Very Very Good as well. The rest of the papers get printed in USA. Lots of Bad printing in USA..Lots of Complaints.

Well, the book has arrived - and I'm very pleased.

The paper matched the swatch perfectly. There were no faults in the book or the packaging.

Based on my sample of '1' book - the results are perfect.

All printers around the globe have the same paper stock and the books are printed from the closest printer for delivery.

I've printed over 3000 books for clients from US Blurb (printed from places all over the US) and have had only a handful of issues over 10 years. Most of the issues were caused from bad packing by the printer.. and all were replaced at not charge by Blurb.
