I have a good deal on a used but in very good shape acute 2 2400w generator + acute 2 head, $1200 canadian. The pack (new) alone worth double that price. I work with B1's, but I could use that much power on some situations, seems like a very handy tool. I could buy an air transceiver kit to sync with my air tll remote (without ttl, obviously)

But theres only one question that I cant find an answer: the head is not a D4, only "acute" and Im not 100% sure the flashtube is 2400w as well. I know the "battery" versions have either a 1200/2400 flashtube, but seems like its not the case with standard head. Can anyone comfirm?

If it is a fan cooled head with a 250 watt modeling light you are fine on both counts. one thing to warn you about or for you to be aware of: at the fun l2400 w-s through a single head , the flash duration (measured using the t0.1 standard is about 1/80th of a second. using the t0.5 measurement standard it is closer to 1/250th.

  • Acute2 Head is fan cooled and it has an automatic voltage selector for the fan.
In the description, so I guess its fine ! I dont mind the flash duration, this would be mainly to lit large spaces, where the ambiant sucks or need to recreate some sunny effect thru a window.

Enjoy the new toy.

still havent pulled the trigger, anyway its closed today as im typing this. I believe the acute 2 came out around 2008? This is a 7-8years old kit, but for $150 the store can add a 3y warranty. That pack should live at least another 1-2 years right? Hell I think I saw a profoto compact kit on kijiji as well, this is probably MUCH older than that lol.

I believe they were introduced in about 2005 but they are still made today. I have no idea of the serial # sequence. You should ask at profoto.com

On the heads the first two digits should be the year of production but it doesn't really matter, besides wearing out the bulbs the heads are so simple they're unlikely to break and a good pack with a little luck should last many many years assuming it's not being heavily abused.

I just noticed they also have a Pro B2 kit with one ProB head for $1600 cnd.

This is "only" 1200w, but still a little more than twice the power of my B1's. This could be interesting as well, but im worried about the battery. Seems to have a lot of spares on ebay as well if anything. They are also acid based battery, unlike most of new stuff wich is lion based.

Id stick with the Acute 2 kit.

Yeah after all what I wanted was the 2400w, not portability lol. And if shits break they can still repair it, the b2 not so much.

That's a really good price, the Pro-B head alone is worth about $450 US second hand ($1500 new), it's cheap enough to buy to resell. I wouldn't sweat the only 1200w bit, you may actually find you want slightly less power on the Acute 2400 pack if you're using a single head.

Price aside they fulfill different tasks, if you don't need portability stick with the mains generators. The Lead acid battery has some things going for it, yes it's a lot heavier but you can re-cell them for next to no cost so effectively they can last forever while once the Life battery goes I think you're out of luck (although in fairness the SLA batteries require a little more care to keep in good shape).

Both were sweet deal but I went with the acute. I already have portability with my B1's althought they are not 1200w lol. Now I will have something that dosent rely on battery and can lit large indoor spaces. I also found a "air sync" transceiver remote for $100 on kijiji! What a coincidence .

Henry's sure are slow as hell to process "used" orders, took 2 weeks before they even got to ship it, but at last, its here !

I ordered the standard non "R" pack, and got the "R" ! This thing new still sell for $4000cnd (http://www.henrys.com/12682-PROFOTO-ACUTE2R-2400-GENERATOR-900776.aspx) this is insane that I got this for $600. They still have another (and maybe more, they dont list quantities) for that same price and im thinking about buying another one as well. The acute heads are $300, already ordered another one.

So far im loving it, especially the 250w modeling.
