Heads up everyone, just had an email from Nikon advising me that there is an update to the firmware

But as it seems only to have

Fixed an issue that resulted in Points of Interest (POI) for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan not displaying correctly

not sure how much I care.

I downloaded P900 firmware v1.3 for Windows from Nikonusa site and it appears to be the same as v1.2. The firmware.bin file is exactly the same size as the firmware.bin file for v1.2, and the camera does not recognize an update is on the card. I sent a question to Nikon, but no response yet.

You may have downloaded v1.3 but so far Nikon USA only has firmware v1.2. The sizes of both firmware files may be identical, because it may be designed to completely overwrite the flash RAM in the camera.

The reason why the update isn't recognized may be because Nikon changed the update procedure from the way it used to be done. Usually, you'd copy the binary firmware file to the root directory of a memory card. For the P900, you need to copy a folder (that contains the necessary binary file) to the card's root directory.

It's now available US here:

Question, some firmwares address specific issues and "other things" ....does Nikon do this, is does this ONLY fix POI for HK, etc..?

For example, my Pentax K-5 FW updates always seem to include this phrase as part of every update..

"Improved stability for general performance."

I correctly updated to V1.3 just now.

All the best,

I guess my problem is I am copying the .bin file to the card instead of the folder that contains the .bin file. I don't understand why Nikon has different procedures for Coolpix versus DSLR. When I update firmware for my D810 you copy the .bin file to the card.

I think you're right. Regarding the firmare.bin file, it has had the same size through all updates: 69051KB.

All the best,
