I might go for a three week trip to Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodja early next year. For this I need to bring a FF camera. I am really missing my a7 which I sold and have only got the a5100 today.

Here in Denmark the a7R-ii is around 2.4 times more expensive than the a7-ii, and what I like about the a7R-ii over the a7-ii is the continues Eye-AF, silent shutter functionality and very crop-able 42MP files.

So I have slightly reluctantly decided to get the a7-II and not the a7R-ii, as I need a full frame camera for that extra clarity, DR and being able to shoot wide FOV pictures and still get shallow DOF, and I just cannot justify going with the much more expensive a7R-ii as Sony most likely will come up with another awesome body next year. Going FF will also give me IBIS which is a huge deal maker for me.

My current lens selection include:

Walimex (Rokinon) 2.8/14

E 3.5-5.6/16-50

FE 4/24-70

FE 2/28

FE 2.8/35

FE 1.8/55

Sigma 3.5-4.5/35-135

Konica 1.7/50

Konica 1.8/50

Konica 3.5/135

Konica 4/200

To bring the 24-70 for outdoor day time hikes is a no brainer for me. I love this lens!

For indoor and low light shooting the 2/28 is also a strong candidate. I haven't shot with it much though as it is brand new!

The compact Konica 4/200 is also interesting as this 4ill actually be useful with the 5-axis stabilisation and if/when I need that extra reach for a special composition.

Along with these three lenses (4/24-70, 2/28 and 4/200) I will bring two bodies. The tiny a5100 and most likely the a7-ii.

What would you bring to a three week trip to Thailand, Cambodja and Vietnam?

I come from Vietnam and I can tell you that in urban areas you will need 35mm and wider simply because you don't have space. It is a very over populated country. Also minimal gear so you can watch over due to high rate of theft.

i would bring the 24-70 + the 28/2 and or the 55

Thanks and good to know. The FE 28mm and the FE 24-70mm should be great then. I will have a little three compartment brown Domke shoulder bag with me, so I don't intend to drag along a lot of equipment.

I am now thinking only to bring one body, in which case that will be the a7-ii, but in that case I should bring a little flash as well. Hmmm...

just got the nissin i40, not supersmall but amazing power and value

I can imagine. I already have the Sony HVL-F20, and if the Nissin was released back when I got the Sony flash I would've opted for the Nissin indeed.

Personally, I'd only bring the 28/2 mm lens and enjoy the rest of my trip. I might miss a few shots, but I'd enjoy the trip, apart from the photography as well, because I wouldn't have to carry as much.
I

So, if you have a favourite focal lenght, pick a prime that covers it and bring that, enjoy your trip and take beautiful pictures.

If your favourite is your 24-70, then I'd bring that and call it a day.

If you truly can't live with more tele, then by all means, choose the lightest tele you have and bring that with you.
