I have just got back from a very invigorating trip to Rome. As I travelled only on often crowded public transport in the city I limited myself to minimum amount of photographic gear on this shoot.

You can read more about my approach and the photo gear that I took on my blog:

Here is just one of the many images from that trip -

I can't claim to be a travel photographer. I was in a job for several years that required travel and documentary photography abroad. This was just a brief vacation with my wife.

Yes, please do visit my web page. You might pick up one or two tips.

Good job Nishi. I really liked the sunset over the Vatican with the buildings in silhouette. I do that a lot. Did it here in DC a couple of weeks ago and in Boston last week. I will go to Rome for two weeks in the Spring but will carry the XT-1, 10-24, 55-200 and maybe the 35 prime (if the 2.0 comes out by then). Thanks for the tips....

Very dramatic shots. Thanks for sharing. have a great trip to Rome but travel light...

I agree, travel light. Hopefully it will be much cooler than it was when I was in Lecce for several weeks in September. I ended up leaving my Fuji and lenses in our flat and mostly used my pocketable GR. Very liberating in the heat. :)

It was quite hot in Rome when I was there last week but besides that as you are on your feet all day travelling light helps. I found that I used XT-1 with 60mm f2.4 a lot and only got the 18mm on some occasions. I love this lens.

Love the shot. BTW are you happy with black widow spider holslter?

Very nice shots. I like your PP. Not crazy sharpened/HDR or overpocessed colors.

We share a philosophy with travel (4 months a year in our case) photography, a couple of primes and keep it light. One thing I learned in Rome is camera bags don't work, at least for me. You can't put them down due to the crowds, they get tangled up in people in mass transit, they slip off shoulders leaning over railings at monuments, they plow into those concrete posts to prevent sidewalk parking. I switched to a small rucksack with OpTech neoprene lens sleeves. Works great. If the bag was a hassle, something to consider.

Great photos, thank you. I have visited Rome twice, both trips before I had the good fortune of owning a Fuji. But I did enjoy taking many snaps with my P&S. A beautiful city.
