Hey guys I am in a dilemma. I currently use a Minolta 35mm f1.4 non G lens with an LAEA4 adapter to shoot weddings in pretty low light with an A7 and A7 II.

However I am not too thrilled with the AF performance especially in low light and so I want to upgrade to a better lens.

Now I can't even remotely afford the Sony 35mm f1.4 FE lens nor is the Zeiss 35mm f2.8 fast enough for my needs.

So I was thinking of either the Sigma 35mm f1.4 A lens for Sony or the Tamron 35mm f1.8 USD .

The Sigma I am not too keen on as I have seen lot of AF issues though IQ wise its an amazing lens.

So that leaves the Tamron 35mm f1.8 or I get a Sony 28mm f2 but I am not too hot on the 28mm focal length.

However in the future I may get an A7r II and so wanted to know if Tamron lenses work with fast AF. Lenses like the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC or the Tamron 90mm f2.8 VC that feature a USM.

Thanks.

What is your use case scenario?

If you want eye AF or lock-on AF, only native lenses will have that. We have the Tamron 70-200mm/2.8 adapted to our a7RII, which works pretty well in decent lighting. But we definitely miss the eye AF and lock-on AF features.

Thanks for all the help. Thats one really cute kid you got there !

Also couldn't help notice how much nicer the A7r II colors are. I somehow doubt that's just the lens as the CZ 55mm f1.8 is no slouch and I feel the sensor is getting better colours than the A7 II.

My mind isn't yet made up but your experience definitely helped ! I think a direct lens supporting all the future features of the Sony cameras is a better bet than relying on an adapted solution. May just get the Sony 28mm f2 instead.

Not the 35mm focal length that I am looking at but not too much wider and its more compact and at 200 gms its really light weight too.
