Can anyone lead me to a quality dig camera that can take high quality senior pictures type photos for a reasonable price. Even an older one that is discontinued would be ok. I want to be able to take high quality photos of my kids and have them developed like the actual senier pics. I know that I can find what I want for under a grand if I can get some advice. Pic quality is my key concern. Thanks

I'm not lookin for absolutes here, I'm just lookin for some starting point in the quagmire of dig cameras. As I'm sure all of the pro's (many of you) already know, There are hundreds of such cameras available on ebay or elsewhere. Just need a starting point.
Thanks again

How large would you like to make the prints? 8x10? Larger? This will give a good starting point as to the "minimum" you can get away with as far as resolution.

For 8x10, you need at least 200 pixels per inch for an acceptable print. (No arguments here... yes, 300 dpi is preferred, but I've used photoaccess.dom to do prints before, and they print a MAX of 200 dpi and I think they look flaweless, and I'm fairly pickey).

So for 8x10 you need a camera that puts out 2000x1600 pixels, or a 3.2 Megapixel camera.

That's a start, though it doesn't stop there. The quality of the image sensor and the quality of the lense and the quality of the internal digital processing makes all the difference in the world on final product. Also consider how advanced the lighting and flash system is. You'll likely be shooting indoors with artificial light of some sort right? Better get something that can take an advanced off camera flash that offers bounce lighting... otherwise you'll have really sharp images with that "deer in headlights" look.

Hope that's a start for you. Good luck.
