Hi folks,

I'm planning a safari trip in 6 months and I'm trying to decide which lens to bring on the trip.

I will have the A5100+SEL18-200 as a backup, but my main camera is A7II and I have no tele lens for it.

70-200 FE is a bit too short, I would like at least 300mm range. I already have LA-EA3 adapter for some old Minolta lenses which I focus manually, but for this trip I need AF.

I've heard that LA-EA3 focusing is really poor with A-mount lenses, but I don't have any to try.

Is there a teleconverter for 70-200 FE?

What would you guys suggest?

Isn't even 300mm a bit too short? My guess is, you would want something in the 400-500mm range. The Tamron 150-600mm zoom gets some good reviews.

Tony Northrup had a nice video review on several tele lenses in this range on youtube, but I forgot the link.

That Tamron looks nice and I like the price, too :)

I guess I'd need LA-EA4 adapter for that in order to make it useful. I haven't tried AF lenses on LA-EA3, but from what I hear the autofocus is really really slow.

Michael Reichman at Luminous Landscape made a review of the A7II + Tamron 150-600 + LE-A4 and he was quite impressed. (Antarctica or safari quite the same...not ;-))
