Stuck pixels on a CP995... what are my options?

Just a quick question, I recently purchased a used Nikon Coolpix 995 and have come to find that it has several stuck pixels. The pixels in question are either gree, red, or white. I verified that they are indeed on the CCD and not of the LCD screen. My questions is this, what can I do about it? Am I stuck (so to speak) with the camera they way it is or is there something I can do to make it better?

The camera was purchased new locally in May of 2002 so I think it should still be covered under Nikon's 1 year warranty but am not certain. Finding any useful information on Nikon's website is next to impossible. What can I do at this point? I've read that Nikon can somehow re-map out the bad pixels but I'm not sure that this is possible.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, Nikon takes care of stuck pixels under warranty. I would call first and confirm how to handle the return. What conditions are you seeing the stuck pixels? At slow shutter speeds use NR.

You may need the orginal receipt for warranty repair.

Well, I took a test shot with a shutter speed of 8 seconds and there they were. Also, there seems to be one bad spot that shows up as a green smear at all exposures and shutter speeds; it's there in every photo I've taken so far.

Yes, the person I purchased the camera from was kind enough to include the original sales receipt as well. I guess I shoul call Nikon Canada today then. Thanks for your help.

Gerald,

Before you do anything else, read Phil's information regarding hot pixels, dead pixels and stuck pixels at:

Your 8-second test doesn't prove anyting. If you take a 1/4 second picture with the lens cap on and you see the bad spot, you have a dead pixel. I had such a spot on my original 995, and the store I bought it from exchanged it for a new camera. If the store you bought it from won't work with you, contact Nikon Canada (I see that you are from Toronto) and request a warranty repair.

Thanks for the response. I just got back from dropping the camera off at Nikon here in Toronto. They said they're extremely busy though so looks like I'll be without the camera for 3 to 4 weeks. :(

Oh well, nothing to do now but wait.

My camera had a cluster of bad pixels that showed up as a greenish smear about 1/4 way up from the bottom of the pitcure and about 1/3 of the way in from the left. These were always there regardless. All pictures had the green smear. Anyway, I'll let Nikon check it out. Hopefully the can do something with it.
