I want to use the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip - looking a the standard model because it's $59 but I am willing to purchase the Pro if necessary.

However, I want to continue to use my Promaster 7100 tripod and I don't want to have to remove the Peak Design plate everytime I want to use the tripod. As near as I can tell, the promaster head that came with the tripod has what I'll call the "generic" square quick release plate and is not ARCA compatible. The Peak Design Camera Clip plate is a smaller square shape.

Do I have to buy a new tripod head to make this work?

If I have to do that I might instead purchase a light(er) tripod for hiking but I'm trying to keep from buying a new tripod at this point.

This is for a Sony A6000 so it's not a real heavy camera. I have really started using and carrying the tripod a lot and I'm looking for a more secure way to carry the camera where it is more accessible with my backpack on day hikes.

Thank you.

Do you understand the differences between the standard and the Pro version ?

There are two main differences: the plate and the capture clip Pro can be attached to a tripod.

There are several options:

1) Attach an ARCA compatible quick release plate onto the tripod head, Sirui MP-2 or similar.

2) Attach the Capture Clip Pro onto the tripod head, buy another one for your backpack

3) Get another tripod, like Sirui series T04X or T05X, MeFoto Backpacker/Roadtrip

I you like drinking beer then I suggest you get the PeakDesign bottle opener, a very useful tool to tighten the screws on the capture clip.
