Camera just shut off for no reason. Canon said it was cleaning sensor, but must replace whole CMOS chip. Only 4 months old. no charge of course but I read several of you had same problem. I believe this is an issue that will come out. I hope they can find a solution because this is way too much money to be having this kind of problem. I'm getting it fixed but they halve to send part from Japan!! Very annoying and disheartening. Anyone else having this problem and what did you do? Thanks. 7D4me

I think the failure that occurred didn't have to do with sensor cleaning, it's just that's when the failure was reported.

It must be very frustrating to need to send in your camera and wait for a part like that. I'd be pretty unhappy if that happened to me. I feel the pain. I sure hope it doesn't happen to me.

"but I read several of you had same problem."

I feel for you but can you please site where you read this, I read this board every day and have not seen it.

I'm not familiar with that error either; nor have I ever experienced it on a camera. That would be devastating if it happened during a shoot.

I had mine go out after two months. They replaced the sensor assy. And a PCB. The failure was some error while performing sensor cleaning. Two weeks to repair.

It did happen on a shoot!! My wife( a beginner ) was with the national Audubon society 2015 picture winner on a trip in Maine across the country. It was a tough day. I felt so bad for her. Lesson learned - take our T5i as a back up no matter how inconvenient!!!

Hugh, Has your camera been OK since then? Are pictures any cleared now since they had to re-calibrate in general? Larry
Hi Larry,

Sorry for the late reply. After repair, the camera is flawless. No problem whatsoever. I did have it repaired at the Canon Repair Center in Costa Mesa, CA.

Hugh

I have the same issue with the automatic sensor cleaner. I get an error message and then it turns off my camera in the 7d Mark II. Does anyone else currently have this problem as it seems like it happened to several others. What will Cannon do about it?

If it's still within the 1-year warranty period, then surely Canon will cover it. Have you contacted them directly?

I read this forum a lot and do not remember seeing this come up before, The 7dmkii has been around for some time now, if this was a common problem it would have been sorted long ago. Also if it was a well known issue they would keep parts in stock to cover the issue as soon as possible. It is unfortunate but probably just a random issue that affects a few cameras just part of selling so many. Sadly all manufacturers have faults, if the same fault crops up on a few cameras it could well just be coincidence. If it is well known, it would be widely published.

I couldn't agree more, and based on the 3-year old replies it wasn't common then either. The person that resurrected the thread would have done better to contact Canon first.

My canon 7dm2 got same problem two months back.I am an electronic technician knows that this sensor cleaning message is of the problem of image sensor block. I cancelled auto cleaning function from menu and not it works well.with auto cleaning function this message arrives often, but we can power on camera with pressing shoot button twice

Cool, maybe in another 3-4 years someone else will resurrect the thread again just to keep it alive lol.
