The rubber grip "skin" is starting to peel off. What's the best way to glue it in place?

Mine started doing this very quickly after purchase. Initially I just used a small piece of good slick electrical tape to secure it. (see below) After an additional year, the rubber continued to expand and release at other places, so I carefully removed it and trimmed off about 1/2 the little ridge on the edge of the cover and put it back on and it is still attached (it expands is the reason for the release). I will send it in for repair eventually (I have the extended warranty), but will wait for something else to fail (over 90,000 exposures so far).

Some DPR users have had it repaired free even after the warranty has expired, so you might want to check with Olympus.

I used cyanoacrylate glue, being very, very careful not get it near any buttons ( primarily the playback button). So far this has held for 8 months, the camera is used/ handled 3-4 times a week.

My E1 had this problem

I took it to a camera repair shop for a $60.00 glue job (back in the mid 2000)

Those shops are much harder to find these days

Cheers,

'Amazing Goop' It's an adhesive, a sealant, and it's clear. I've used it on a few things and it's held up in some pretty extreme temperatures and weather.

I had the same problem with my e-m1 that I got used from KEH. I contacted them and they said they use rubber cement (also called contact cement) when they fix grips. So I bought some and fixed my grip worked good. I ended up retrimming the grip since it stretched out.

My XZ-2 thumb rest came loose and was too swollen to stuff back in. It was still under warranty and the repair was fast; total turn around was less than two weeks from when i shipped it to them. My EM-1 rear grip got loose at the bottom half in October. Standard Super Glue has held that low stress section since. However, about a month ago the top portion came totally loose. This section seems to have too much stress and super glue lasted less than a day. I didn't want to be missing my camera for a few weeks in the summer, so I hit the auto parts store. Found Permatex contact cement. It is very gooey during the installation, a little bit goes a long way. You need to be careful to avoid the screws and other openings on the camera. I also cleaned both surfaces with rubbing alcohol before gluing.Seems to to be holding well for the past 2-3 weeks of use in hot and humid weather. I tend to carry the EM-1 in my hand with just a wrist strap so there is always a lot of stress on the rear thumb grip. Since i have the extended Olympus warranty I figured I would get it fixed in a few months when i am ready to be without my EM-1 for a bit (I can always grab the wife's EM-5, but it doesn't love the 50-200 as much). Once bird and bug season passes I will not care as much.
