I try to keep this short, but I also have the feeling that possibly every detail may give a hint as to what is going on. So, here it comes:
Just a few days ago I acquired a new 5D Mark III in combination with a 50mm 1.2. A few minutes after playing with the camera I realised that dust particles accumulated on the top lcd display. I didn't loose much thought on it (in fact the dust thing came to my mind afterwards). A few test shots later and happy that the 50mm 1.2 seemed to harmonize perfectly with the camera, I had to stow my new toy in the camera bag in lack of time. The next day I mounted a display protector on the main display, and since with it came a second smaller protector for the top panel, I thought 'why not' and tried to install that, too.
And then the strange thing happened:
Before mounting the smaller protector, I of course had to wipe clean the aforementioned dusty lcd panel. The Camera was turned off. I used an older but still clean microfibre cloth. And from the gentle touch of the cloth, the display acted weird. Some of the icons started to appear sporadically. At some places only half an icon, at other places the background around the icons became dark (a little bit like spilled ink). The blotches and half-icons disappeared everytime after a few seconds. I then turned the camera on and repeated the process. Still blotches and parts of some icons appeared, though far less with each new wiping. Perhaps important to note: touching the display with my fingers or any other material did not cause an effect. A few minutes later, the whole spook was over and the display remained clear. Since then I wasn't able to reproduce the effect.
Any thoughts on this? Has anybody had a similar experience? Thank you very much in advance!
