Settings for printing 11 by 17

Can this camera really produce nice photos in this size. What should the settings be to make my pictures 11 by 17 and print them? Should I change it to

300 dpi instead of 230? Also, will making the picture larger than the 8 by 10 it saves it as take away from the quality?

the bigger u make your print the more any imperfections will show up.. i think most folks (not all) would say that reasonable 8 x 10 prints could be achieved but not 11 by 17s.. but again this depends what u intend to do with the larger prints.. hung on a wall and viewed from a distance they will look okay but not when pored over at say six inches from your nose..

again there is more than just the 4 mega pixel ccd size involved in all this.. kodak produce consumer digicams.. they are entry level easy to use devices.. some might have a 4 mega pixel ccd.. but the rest of the camera will be "average".. "average" being perfectly acceptable for the market they are intended for.. it all starts to go wrong when folks read too much into the 4 mega pixel factor..

plus of course the printer you use is bound to play a major part in this.. one thing is certain.. if you aint overly happy with the results at 8 x 10.. you wont be happy at 11 x 17..

basically if you take any 3 mega pixel camera and simply bung a 4 mega pixel ccd into it the improvement will be marginal.. it certainly wont hit you in the eye.. now if the rest of the camera was improved by the same 33% factor it might well do.. but it isnt so it wont.. he he

i have a 2 mega pixel kodak dx 3600.. a 3 mega pixel kodak dc4800.. and a couple of other-make 4 mega pixel cameras.. they all make what i consider reasonable 8 x 10 size prints.. and when viewed at what i consider a reasonable distance.. the normal distance for viewing such a picture is not six inches away from your nose.. its more like arms length.. there is no real noticable difference between any of my cameras exept for colour tones and such which has nothing at all the do woth the ccd size..
