video shooting on 7d ii - how long from 1 battery

Does anyone know approximately how long 1 fully charged LP-E6N Canon battery should last for video shooting? Assume no external display, Canon IS lens, minimal tracking and multiple available 64GB flash cards. How many total minutes of HD 30fps video would you expect the battery to last?

How would this compare to the original 7d and 5d iii?

29 min. and 59 seconds, the movie recording stops automatically, necessitating a manual restart.
I understand the single video limit, i am asking how long the battery will last when you add together the sequential restarts while using the same battery?

Interesting question, and I am surprised that no one has answered. A related question: given the less than 30 minutes rule when shooting video continuously, will the 7D MKII automatically restart or does it just quit and force you to press the Record button again? On my Panasonic superzoom the 30 minute rule is seamless - it just closes one MP4 file and opens another, and the two (or more) can be connected without even a noticeable dropped frame.

I have not shot anything more than a few minutes of video at a time, but the manual states that you should get about 90-100 minutes of video on a battery (LP-E6N), depending on temperature.

The camera will not automatically restart at the 30-minute time limit per "clip": you have to restart it manually. However, the manual says it will seamlessly transition to a new file when it reaches the 4GB size limit. Does a second file constitute a new "clip"? -- I don't know.

I shot 25 min of video + app 400 stills at my son wedding last week, still have 50% battery. Ron P

Ron,

Thanks for the info.

On a separate note, were the stills you shot mostly single shots or bursts? There are other threads where 7dii owners are getting 1/2 or 1/3 as many one shots compared to their 7d ver 1 under similar shooting. Single shot seems to me the mode. Do / did you have ver 1 too for annocdotal info?

I have started this thread:

Ron,

Just to confirm, single battery or gripped double battery? ALso, at the wedding, were the 400 shots just at the 30 minute ceremony, or across the party / reception as well?

WOuld you mind doing a quick easy experiment?

Look at current battery % level.

Put standby timer on 30 minutes.

Turn off screen leave on for the 30 minutes

Look / record new battery level once camera turns off (you can tell from the top lcd screen).

Repeat, but now leave the screen on in Info black and white mode.

Thanks!!!!

Video at the ceremony, shots after ceremony +reception. single battery 50% the next day. Camera was turned off over night. Ron PS several shots were with on board flash after dark. Guy I looked at the charge level the next day as a after thought. I was surprised I still had 50%. A lot of the stills were shot when the pro was taking pics of family, friends etc.

Shot a 32gb and 1/2 a 16 gb card lots of short clips new lp-e6n started at 100% ended at 24%. Not a lot of idle time. FHD30 ip. MOV

thanks guys.

Ron - very impressive. Unfortunately this is my slow time. By the end of August, I should have a couple of games under my belt and pay more attention to the shots/battery charge. I only noticed this large discrepancy with my 7d ver 1 mid-June and have not really shot at all since. I got exactly 500 shots. (single shot 98% of the time, + 1 week standby time).
