in my quest to learn how to sharpen better

I've made a large pano of Adelaide (downsized for posting)

14 image stitch using a 75mm (150mm eqiv) lens - OMD em 10 - Iso 200, f5.6, 6secs

thinking of printing 40cmx220cm....also interested in how people mount/display large panos

here are some 100% crops from original full size (sharpened and unsharpened)

But it might also be how you are doing the sharpening.

Here's my take - your sharpen at the top, the original in the middle and my sharpen at the bottom:

The way you're doing it is introducing artifacts and killing detail. How are you sharpening?

BTW Adelaide is one of my favorite cities - I'd love to be able to live there.

In any case, I like the images

Did you take them from Mount Lofty?

I'm thinking noise may be a factor as well?

I applied a small amount in Lightroom to the photos prior to merging.
And then after all the image tweaks a fairly strong high pass.

Sharpening is something I'm trying to learn...so any comments or suggestions are welcomed. What did you do?

Secret location just below Mount Osmond golf course ;)
A quick scan on google maps and you'll find.
I used Photographer's Ephemeris to find and plan.

Tks for the heads-up, :-)

What raw processor do you use?

Lightroom...plus Photoshop to stitch them in this case.

I also used high pass sharpening. I tend to use a narrow radius and layer multiple high pass filtered images at different levels of opacity. So methinks it's a question of figuring out the technique.

Same here. I use a 1.3-1.7 radius (never more than 2.5) with various blend modes, and then duplicate the layer and adjust opacity if too sharp. A bit of masking would help. There's methods of creating masks with blend modes that could eliminate adding noise to the deep shadows, but I don't have a need for that so I can't relate how it is done.
