Hi

I'm planning a few days on a small boat in borneo and I'm not sure there'll be a plug on board to recharge my two camera batteries.

I'm put off by buying a third Fuji battery because of the price (£40+) but I found Ex-pro was making rather cheap ones (£9)

Is it advisable to go for another brand? I'd probably buy 2 or 3 of those if there is no risk of damage for my camera.

I bought a couple of cheap spare batteries for my X-E1 two years ago. Still using them alongside my Fuji original and haven't had any problems.

It's probably worth getting a charger that will run off car cigarette lighter and/or a USB socket if you are going off the beaten track.

If you have access to Amazon.com you should try the Wasabi Power brand batteries for your X-T1. I've been using them in both my X-E2/X-T1 and X100/s for 3 years now. They work just as well as the Fuji batteries and you can get two with a charger (car adapter included) for around $25 US.

Third party may be ok no issues. I look at it like this. You are trying to save $30.

How much is your vacation costing you? If your battery failed for whatever reason how easy is it for you to return to the location.

In my mind penny wise vs pound foolish

Sometimes their are no do-overs. Again many seem ok with 3rd party. If I went to the trouble to save and spend what we all know Fuji X gear costs plus a vacation saving a few dollars on a power source I don't get, but that is me

You guys certainly don't make it easy :-)

... re "why skimp on the batteries?". The Fuji branded batteries are not terribly long lasting either.

Its a matter of crap verses super crap and for less money, take your pick.

Yeah, what he said. :-)

Wasabi 2 battery and charger kit comes with a 12v adapter so that might work for you.

I've been using Watson batteries for many years. As far as I can tell they are identical to the batteries Fuji supplies. I've had zero problems, and don't remember hearing of anyone in the world that had issues.

Stay with the name brands that all use the same Japanese power cells, avoid no-name batteries. Just take a couple of extras if you're concerned about rare battery failures.

BTW, read the Fuji warranty and Fuji battery warranty carefully. Fuji doesn't cover power (battery) damage. For that you can only resort to the Fuji battery warranty that clearly states that their maximum liability is a new replacement battery.

Personally I prefer to use Fuji in case there is an issue that invalidates the warranty. Ok, that is unlikely, but really you are trying to save yourself £30 when you spent £thousands on the body and several lenses (probably - I did).

I normally buy OEM batteries for warranty reasons, but the life expectancy of batteries in the Fuji is abysmal enough that I decided I needed a lot of batteries, so I went third party. No problems so far.

With a mid- to high-end Canon or Nikon, the battery is custom designed/built and the highest performance available at the date of design.

The Fuji batteries, on the other hand, are off-the-shelf, pre-existing, generic OEM-supplier batteries with absolutely no performance distinction whatsoever.

Get Wasabi, Watson, or another brand that has decent warranty backing in case it takes an early dump.

That double place AC/DC charger looks like a nice deal.
