I would like to create a page for selling some of my photos on Etsy. I know there is a lot of competition and I am doing it more as a hobby and hopefully an extra couple of bucks here and there. I would like to post my photos on Etsy and if they are purchased place the order through, smugmug or zenfolio (open to other suggestions) and mail them directly to the buyer. I feel like this is better than having an inventory at home with no buyers. Any suggestions? I have never placed an order through these sites so i am hoping the turnaround is less than a week. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.
First, send a few images to be printed at a few labs. Bay Photo, Mpix, Meridian,WHCC, H&H, Buckeye etc. Smugmug and Zenfolio ARE NOT LABS. You will then see how their ordering processes work. You can see if they will offer drop shipping to your client in unlabeled packaging.
You can also see what the price will be and thus work out what you need to charge. As for pricing, don't be foolish. Make sure you are pricing for profit. Yes, its a hobby but make it pay its way otherwise you are taking money out of your pocket (in the form of time) and giving it away to strangers. It is a free country though....
Speed of turnaround is very quick depending on when you order and how far it needs to be shipped.
Think of what you want to offer. Framed prints? Canvas? Metal? Greeting cards? As you peruse the catalogs of these labs you will see many products you may never realized existed.
Good luck
