I received my eMac yesterday, i had never used a Mac before, but I simply love it.

I had a hard time making my ADSL modem work, but still it was just fraction of the time I had to spend solving the same problem with a PC.

Basically I'm leaving this message here for all of those who are doubtful about switching to a Mac, honestly I don't think you should have second thoughts, I don't think you will regret it.

One thing that surprised me was when I plugged in my beloved Logitech cordless mouse and it started to work the same instant, I didn't even try the Apple mouse, i really don't need it.

I also installed Macromedia Fireworks, at a glance it seems to have very good features, maybe I don't need PS after all...

Hi Isabel,

Glad you're happy with the new toy. Lot's more fun to use too.
but still it was just

Thing is you're preaching to the already converted here.... :-)

Cheers,

Richard

Congratulations, and welcome to the Mac World! My daughter just got an eMac and loves it too. You should be aware that Apple is having some problems with the video cards in many eMacs, but makes good on their one year warrantee. So if you experience ANY problems, bring your receipt and the computer to a local Apple service center -- most dealers as far as my experience goes.

Here are a few web sites I check on a very regular basis, and suggest you do the same:

http://www.dealmac.com

http://www.maccentral.com

http://www.macintouch.com

http://www.macfixit.com

Enjoy your Mac.

Steve,

What kind of problems are being reported. I've been having some problems. It's only been with Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word X (mainly in internet explorer). When the screen loads, elements will be missing from the webpage. If I scroll up or down or resize the box, the page loads as it is supposed to. So while it's an easy fix, it's annoying. In Word, the text will jumble up a bit if I slowly scroll. The fix is the same as for internet explorer. I have these problems with only those two programs. Do you think it's a hardware or a software kind of thing?

It is a well-reported hardware problem with the video circuitry. Apparently the eMacs have had a fairly high failure rate so far -- something like a third of the computers, according to unscientific anecdotal info.

The problem manifests itself as a disappearing, distorted bottom half of the screen, no matter what software you are running. Although my daughter did not try it, you might be able to see if there is a problem with your eMac by running the hardware test CD that came with the computer. A local Apple dealer fixed my daughter's eMac in about a week -- diagnosis within a day, and a few days to get the part. Works just fine now.

My daughter had lost her copy of the receipt for the computer purchase, but fortunately I regularly scan and save in PDF format ALL important receipts. She had a backup copy on her hard drive and it was a simple matter of printing out another copy.

Good luck -- and hopefully your eMac does not have this problem. The eMac is an outstanding buy with a lot of excellent features.

The eMac is the best deal out there. Well chosen and have fun!

And buy more RAM.
We've had ours now for about three months. It is fabulous. We networked this and the old Rev B iMac together and share a cable modem/IP. I don't know how much memory you got, but we put a 512 Mb in the add-on slot and have no problems. I will soon pull out the hardware test disc to see if my video card is a problem. We (me, my wife, & my 2 sons -14 & 13) all picked up OS X.2 very quickly - it is very stable and damn easy to work on.

Enjoy yours!
