Does the DMW-HGR1 grip work on the GM5 ?

I haven't seen any pictures or any reviews/comments of anyone using that combination.

No the cameras are different dimensions entirely

GM5: 99 x 60 x 36 mm

GM1:99 x 55 x 30 mm

Even if you did screw it in the grip would be 5 or 6mm closer to the body in each direction.

Actually it fits the GM5 just fine. It's even listed as a compatible model on the Panny website. In all the ways that are relevant here the camera dimensions are the same.

As an aside the Gariz half-case for the GM1 is a perfect fit for the GM5 as well.

I'm sure it fits, that wasn't the issue of contention, I was just saying the dimensions of the camera are largely different and while it would screw in the grip would be in a totally different position. 5mm here and there does count.

Again, it's perfectly compatible. The width of both bodies is the same and the tripod mount is in the same position. The extra 5mm depth accounts for the protrusion of the EVF, that's all.

Clearly I have demonstrated that they're not the same size actually... You can verify the measurements I've posted above the GM5 is meaningfully larger, so I'm not sure where you're getting the idea from that its not.

I'm not sure why, but you're not really listening.

The listed dimensions for the GM5 include the protruding EVF. If you ignore that, the depth of the main body part of both cameras is the same. The width is also the same. The tripod socket is in the same position. The fact that the GM5 is slightly taller doesn't matter here. The grip fits. Panasonic even explicitly lists the GM5 as being compatible with the DMW-HGR1.

It's no more complicated than that.

Do you have the gm5 with the grip? If so could you take a picture?
No, I don't own the grip. But Panasonic have posted plenty of marketing pictures that show the grip attached to the GM5. For example: http://panasonic.jp/dc/gm5/lens_accessory.html

And again they list it as a compatible model just about everywhere.

I also know for a fact the body dimensions are exactly the same so far as they concern grip compatibility, as evidenced by the fact that the Gariz half-case for the GM1 fits the GM5 as well, and that's something that I do have personal experience with.

It fits the GM5 lika a glove. I've been using it for months.

How much weight does it add ? Would you mind taking a picture from the major angles ? Front, back, side ?

It's lightweight aluminum. You will not notice any weight difference.

Take a look at the Richard Franiec grip.

Clearly some demonstrations can be clear yet incorrect! ;-)

I can feel a bit of GAS developing toward the GM5. At B&H the black version is now $800 and the red $700, with the 12-32. I think I'll wait for a deeper drop, and I'd prefer the black, but I'm keeping an eye on the price.

I had both the GM1 & GM5, they are the same size as far as the grip, it would fit perfectly.
