Upgrading to 6d from 700d?

As topic says, I've been looking to upgrade from 700d to full frame as I prefer doing landscape photography and astrophotography and especially in low lights im finding myself bit disappointed with the crop camera noise performance when going above iso 1600.

Now that I finally have saved enough money for the upgrade, im wondering if 6d is the way to go. I've read that its really great for low light. What im wondering if I should just hold on a little longer and see what new we're getting from Canon? 5d mark 3 is out of my budget sadly.

Will 6d be enough for years to come for photoenthusiast? What im afraid is that i've seen people saying how awful the autofocus is on 6d with only 1 crosstype af-point.

What im really looking for is the best possible quality pictures when it comes to landscapes, taking pictures of my kids and astrophotography.

I also tried to use Nikon d610 and Sony a7 but the camera layout was akward for my taste. I felt so lost when i was trying them in store... Canon design just feels the most natural for me.

Any helpful feedback will be appreciated.

+1 for 6D. Autofocus works well, and I've heard several reviewers say it is better than the AF on the old 5DMII. Beautiful IQ too!

It might be near on 3 years old, but its a good capable ff camera, good deals about now go for it. :D

I would move up and not give it a second thought.

I found a substantial improve in image quality and ISO performance when I moved from the 500d to the 6d. The biggest knock on the 6d's AF isn't that it is poor, but limited given it has only 11 points/1 cross type. Just realize that the 6d still has more AF points than you 700d. So, if your 700d's AF isn't limiting you today, than I doubt the 6d will either, but you will get you better ISO performance.

Here is an example of an action shot taken RAW at ISO 3200, using Lightroom to convert and cropped only....no other post processing. There is still a decent amount of noise, but unlike my 500d at ISO 3200, its nothing that can't be cleaned up with Noise Reduction.

The 6D is no sports camera, but i manage to capture action by selecting the center point only and keeping it on the subject. If you're close enough and your subject is slow enough to manage keeping the center square on your subject, it does a great job keeping focus and capturing action.

Of the other camera's you listed(D610, A7 and 5DMKIII), the 6D has the best high ISO performance in the example photos i've seen. I researched this heavily before buying and found it retains the most detail at high ISO, noise is also heavily subdued. New players like the D750 and A7S are better, but the D750 only slightly better and the A7S is only 12MP vs 20mp, so you have less room for cropping. Plus they cost double what i paid for the 6D. For some reason DXO rates high ISO noise a little differently then i think real world samples come out. It rates the nikon's and sony's much higher than canon, but in real world photos the 6D seems to come out on top.

I must say after reading the posts you guys made, I decided to take the plunge and bought a 6d. The camera is a joy to use and im enjoying it especially with the samyang 14mm and canon 40mm.

These are the first pics I took with my samyang 14mm and 6d combo while we were on an old wooden sailboat.

Now I'm trying to decide on which telephoto lense to buy first... :)

Zoom: Canon EF 70-200/4 LIS
Prime: Canon EF 100/2.8 LIS

Excellent....good to see you are having fun with your new camera.

Yes, the 6D is quite well designed. Canon's UI is quite well designed.
Any helpful feedback will be appreciated.
