Le Langhe are a series of low hills in the North west of Italy,

they have recently become a Unesco's world Heritage site,

it is a world apart made of little villages, mists, grape vines, ancient castles, and underground.. white truffles :-)

Here, in autumn, is the land of wine, as Barolo, Barbaresco and others amongst the best italian "juices" come from these Hills.

Here, in winter, lies an almost naif landscape, that I tried to catch while still sleeping or jut woke up... so the "dreaming Hills" has been my winter project this year, hope You like it :-)

ps. other photos and fullsize options on the website, thanks for looking, here's the link to the dreaming hills gallery:

Well done Marco, the first one is my fav , the colors are very good. Italy is a pleasure to see in pictures as well (last week i was in Bordighera with a DP3 Merrill, a delight in proper light :-) ).

Is my first comment on your pictures but i look at them most of the time you bring them up here.

Salve

Nice! I like number 2 the best. It is so unexpected with so large dark areas in a landscape image. I cannot really relate to what I see. It looks surreal or alien.

Hi Marco, and I enjoyed what you are building to do here. I think I agree with Roland that the second is the more effective, and then I have an idea.

i suspect that if the title were to change a little, it would help a lot with the concept, both for those of us 'expecting' in your gallery, and with how you would see your opportunities.

it's a simple change, to 'in the dreaming hills...' in English, and as follows in Italian, if Google Translate has it near right:

Nelle colline sognando d'Italia...

in my mind, anyway, this would relieve you to scenes in the atmosphere, rather than trying to present the aspect of the whole, which is after all difficult with low, long features.

Thus for example the nice shot with colorful villa at the far left could tighten up in that a lot, show just the beginning of the ridge on right, and would much better communicate the essence of such life.

Where you already have a close area, this change of intent could also affect the opposition and centering, for you would then be purely about the atmosphere, and unless it was strongly part of that atmosphere, would not feel obligated to include or emphasize the hill.

just thoughts, anyway, if turn out useful.

Ciao, Clive

These are wonderful images. I like #1 and #4 the most.

When I am out shooting in fog, it has a mind of it's own and never does what I want. Also, fog can move faster than I can.

This is my favorite. The others are very good also but I like this one the most.

Celebrate mediocrity (in moderation)

Hi Marco,
Wonderful images from Beautiful Italy.
I really like No 1 and No3.
Thanks for sharing with us your beautiful part of the world.

Kind regards Lea.

wow many great new foto series today! mist is this theme for the week? many great mist foto haha

marcodadofoto last foto is really great! it is impossible to seeing this scene type in my city so i really

love it. color looks like tolkien fantasy but in the black/white stephen king horror^^;

Marco, apologies if I may have gone at this a bit directly above - should not write such thoughts as they first arrive in the middle of the late night I think, as I see all more gently this morning.

If maybe it might give you some ideas, in a softening or broadening of approach.

I liked more of them better this morning, as others do, and meant to say also that one or two of them made me think of Italo Calvino's 'The Road to San Giovanni' as it is in English anyway from Tim Parks, a very personal book of his that I've long and quite particularly liked.

All best,
Clive

Hi Joaquin, and thanks to follow my photographic work,

I know Bordighera quite well, a beautiful white chapel on the sea there, a wide "lungomare" walk, the Piccolo Hotel and so on... not bad!

Hi Clive,

thanks for the interesting and the feedback!

In this case, the "dreaming Hills" was ment to explain more than other concept, the moment in which most of the photos were taken, the first moment of dawn, catching the landscapes in that "nearly-asleep" and dreamy mood.

Me too... that "path to the castle" could be a medioeval scene. It was a very cold early morning, as the sun lit just the Castle's walls, as to guide the pilgrims there (at least those were my thoughts....!)

thanks joe, the colours are more real than you could think, as the "surreal" feeling can be helped with the frequent mists in the risin' sun time....
