Mousehill presenting the new 70-200 and 150-450 on youtube

Just took a look at the website. Nice crisp images, but not useful for analysis. Does wet the appetite though :-) Very nice images overall.

I had the chance to play with the D-FA150-450 during the easter holiday.

It's a great lens!
Thanks for sharing, eh. But most of the photos have very, very heavy sharpening and what looks to be added grain, making it a little difficult to judge the lens' natural sharpness and — even more so — its bokeh.

Is there any chance you'd be willing to post one or two straight OOC?

I agree.

The first shot I looked at at the larger size is the last shot of the two grebes.

The sharpening halos are pretty extreme. Not sure why.

Not quite as bad in the other bird shots, but still obvious in many.

I'd also like to see some original, unprocessed files, if possible.

Thanks, DagTh!

Not really, but I lost access to my old account, "DagT", and now the moderators have to look at my posts before letting you read them :-)

Now I see what you mean regard the last picture. Sorry about that.

Here´s another example in PEF:

There are two versions of the cats eye, with and without sharpening. In that case I agree that the sharpened version is a bit too much, but I don't really agree in the other cases.
Oh, and by the way, the cat and the first picture is handheld. K-3 SR is great.
Oh, I see that now. The two cat eyes are a good comparison of wide-open at 450 with a comparison of how much detail can be pulled out of that, thank you. As for this one:

That, to me, looks like very heavy, highish-radius sharpening with "masking" set to zero, so even the bokeh has been sharpened into sketchy, unnatural-looking lines. You've made it very clear how much detail can be pulled out of this lens, and again thank you for that. But sharpness is only half the reason a lot of people look at high-end lenses, the other being bokeh. And that's pretty hard to tell from these examples.

In this one, too, the reflections and out-of-focus areas have caught a lot of residual sharpening causing an unnatural look that would have been avoided at least in part with a higher masking setting.

I don't mean for these observations to offend, just trying to express what I personally have been looking for in the very sparse example shots from these new lenses — and illustrate why it's a little difficult to judge in some of the examples you've posted.

Anyways, thanks again Dag. Happy shooting, eh.
