Hi folks,

There is a seller wants to sell his rarely used Leica M8. He said he took less than 2000 photos with it. So the camera is somehow like new. He is asking $960 since no one is interested to buy it from him in Saudi Arabia.

I want to use the camera with Leica 35mm f/1.4 for travel photography. Currently, I use the lens on my Sony A7R.

What do you think guys? How can I check it? How do I know if the camera owned by him?

The price is right. Are you in a position to take a look at the camera and run some tests?

Smoking price if it were legit.
How can I check it?
If you can't handle it you can't check it. You can view the number of actuations by this method http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/41416035 I guess he could photograph the rear screen after you explain to him how to bring up the service menu and display the number of actuations.

Unless he has a sales receipt with his name on it I can't think of any way.

You state nobody wants to buy it from him in Saudi Arabia, but your profile says you live there. Where's the camera? How did you come to know this guy?

Since you're asking questions here I assume he's a relative stranger. I think I'd pass.

LOL.. I passed the deal since the M8 doesn't have full frame sensor

I'd move with caution. One in that condition should easily fetch twice that price.

And you honestly didn't know that before considering one?!
I am not a Leica fanboy! I used to use Canon equipments only. Then, shift to Sony brand. I thought M8 is similar to M9.

That's not 'fanboy' level info - you should know what you're (thinking of) buying. This site has all the info on hand http://www.dpreview.com/products/leica/slrs/leica_m8
