Thanks!

W00t!! Thanks for the heads up!!

Reading through that link, it looks like Lightroom users will need to update to version 6 (when available). This statement - "If you’re using one of the newly supported cameras listed above, please download the DNG Converter. We’re working to add support to these cameras and they will be added in the next Lightroom release." - suggests that users of Lightroom 5.x (and earlier) will need to go down the DNG Converter route to get their raws into the program.

Cheers

Brian

Just in case you haven't tried, the ORI Raw files that you get alongside the 64MP ORFs are actually just standard 16MP ORFs with a different file extension.

In the beta we've been using, you have to rename the extension to .ORF, rather than ORI, but it does work.

I'm talking Lightroom 6, which is supposed to be out by the end of March according to rumors. Usually they release Camera Raw a little before Lightroom.

I've just updated ACR with the release version, and while it now does open both 16 and 64MP ORF files, it still doesn't seem to work with the ORI files.

Bugger.

Even if you rename them?

I just tried renaming the file to Richard-dpreview.com but that didn't work either....

renaming to richard-dpreview.ORF does however work.

Oh yes, finally getting the RAWs open in Lightroom (via DNG converter)!

Muuuuuch better results than with Olympus Viewer -> TIFF -> LR route. I was starting to get a bit worried about the detailed look of my new mkII + Oly 12-40 combo, but that's all blown away now that I'm able to view&edit things with my established workflow.

Good reminder though how excellent piece of SW Lightroom really is (both image quality wise and workflow wise), to spend some time trying to work with some of the other tools…

....and so far I've had to struggle to obtain the same combination of sharpness and lack of noise as OOC jpegs. I have the E-M5II set up in the Natural mode, all submenu settings at default, antishock 0, noise filter turned off, Keep Warm Colors off, and, of course, highest resolution. Comparing the OOC jpegs with the same RAW image converted with ACR, with no adjustments, viewed at 100%, the RAW-based images are not as sharp as the corresponding OOC jpegs. I have to use the Clarity slider in ACR to the low 20's and sharpen with FocalBlade (Very Sharp setting), to match the OOC jpeg, and eve then it doesn't seem superior.

This is based only on a few shots, taken in bright sunlight, using the Oly 75mm at f/2.8. There may be some combination of ACR settings that allow it to surpass the OOC jpegs, and the results in low light may well be different. But so far I'm really impressed at just how good the OOC jpegs are (and, of course, they, too, may benefit from tweaking).
