Stupid D7100

My D7100 decided to lock up the other day just after the Fee error when a lens is't set at min aperture on the ring

On lenses with aperture rings, you must lock the lens at it's highest f-stop. So if it's f22, then turn the ring to f22 and turn lock on and never touch it again. Once you have done this, you must change aperture in the camera using the thumbwheels. That's where it's nice to have two wheels like on the D7100, one for aperture, and one for shutter speed. Simple!

Now please patch things up and tell your D7100 it's not stupid and that you love her. ;-)

D7100 is not stupid and you do not have to set the aperture ring lenses to "the min value e.g. 22 and lock".

All you need is to go to the menu, F5 "customize command dials" - "aperture setting" - "aperture ring" - [ok]

And voilá, aperture ring on the lens works nicely.

Yes it is stupid, look at the image. Fully on yet the power switch is in the off position. And I do know about the F5 settings

Cameras are stupid. This one can be in an endless writing situation - without writing.

Now try this:

Reset all settings to default - including write-to-Card settings.

Take out the battery - and get it charged when it is out - it's flat.

Take out the memory-Card.

Did the camera shot off? Otherwise it uses the internal battery - then get it repaired.. Or go on - until the internal battery is flat.

Now - wait for the battery to charge fully. (about two hours).

Put in the battery - and then the Card - better then a new Card - could be the Card giving troubles.

If the internal battery was flat - wait an hour to get it loaded by the charged battery before putting the camera to "on".

If the camera is still "on" when it's "off" - get it repaired.

Thanks for the long reply.

The issue was solved by just removing the battery for 30s or so. Problem hasn't reoccurred.
