Hi,

New to this forum but have been astro imaging for 4 years and involved in amateur astronomy for 40 years.

I use a 8” F/4 astrograph , baader type 3 coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D plus cooler box .

I live in a dark sky site in South Australia, and have set out to take the best images I can with an unmodded camera.

The Canon 1100D has proven to be excellent for astrophotography and good starting point for those wishing to start in this hobby.

Although it has been replaced by the 1200D it's worth chasing up a 1100D.

The image of Thors helmet, was 36 subs at ISO 6400. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker .Processed in Photoshop Cs2..

Cheers,

Justin.

Good Morning Justin!

One of my personal favorite deep sky objects...very low on the horizon in my region. For you down under it must fit very well.

Assuming using iso6400 - you do not use an autoguider?

Cheers,

Hi Michael,

I presume you are talking about Thor's Helmet?

If so yes, it gets to a good altitude from 33 deg 50 min south.

I'm using ISO 6400 most of the time after discovering how useful it is, especially with a cooled camera.

I use an orion min guider.

Thanks,

Justin.

Good Morning Justin!

Hehe...I don't "have" Thor's Helmet higher than 30° at its most - so still in light/dew polluted area.
