Hello,

I'm new in using sony devices and I would change a little thing :

How can I modify the folder structure of the memory stick : I don't want it to create a folder per day, I just want one folder with evreything in it (I was used to this with a former camera from canon).

I can't find any sulution to that question on the internet (beside one explaining how to maybe do what I want but if using PlayMemories Home, and I don't want to use it...)

Had any of you the solution ?

Thank you !

PS : I use a RX-100

Solution
The standard method for saving to a memory card with a Sony camera is to save the photos to the folder DCIM in the subfolder 100MSDCF unless another folder has been created and selected. The RX10 and according to Google, the RX100 III, add dated folders as an option.

The is a discussion on Flickr regarding this problem which gives solutions for avoiding this in Play Memories and Lightroom, but nothing for correcting the problem in camera.

Another discussion in dpreview reveals that some members don't have a problem and others don't understand the problem. The final comment may give the solution which is to change the USB solution...
Are you talking about the camera or on the computer, after importing in the Playmemories program?

I don't have the RX100 but every other Sony camera I've ever used with CF/SD cards all use the same single directory structure - one directory for every image no matter what day it was taken on. One can create more directories but I've not ever seen it creating new ones automatically every day...

Can you put the card in a computer and show a screenshot to show what's happening?

Are you talking about image files - or movie files?

I'm going to guess you're talking about shooting AVCHD movies. If so, then no - there is no user option for how those folders and filenames are handled. However, if you switch to MP4 movie file format, the behavior is different.

That's why i'm confused, this camera cretes automatically a folder per day... I also can create new folder from my camera if I want but it's a different thing.

Sure, here it is :

Image files

No I'm talking about image files but I begin to understand (after reading some posts on the forum) that the AVCHD files are quite a problem for many !

You lost me with a PC, I use OSX and the Sony directories look nothing like this at all.

But I did find this - http://community.sony.com/t5/Cybers...-Folder-Structure-on-Sony-DSC-WX50/td-p/57317

See OSX directory views here - showing contents of each - ALL images go into folder 100MSDCF regardless of date or until another folder is specified in camera.
Haha eternal battle mac/pc ;)

Yes I use a PC and all the camera I owned before had the same comportement as the one you show (one folder for all the pictures), that's why I'm confused with this camera now.

Thank you for the link you have found, I read this kind of solution when I began to look for an answer but I so much don't want to install PMH !! It could be the one and only solution but I hope not...

Thank you again for your help and I hope my english isn't too crappy to read ^^

The RX10 gives the options for directory names of Date Format (which you don't want) and Standard Format (which you do want) and I would expect the RX100 to give the same options. On the RX10, this option is called Folder Names and is just below the Format option in the menus so that's where I suggest you look for it on your RX100.

Unfortunatly not. I took a shot with my webcam of the menu and there is no such option.

A little hard to read, it says :
  • format
  • file number (series/reset)
  • select REC folder
  • new folder
  • recover image DB
  • Display card space
The more I can do to avoid the dated folder is to crete a folder every time I reset my sd card and then to save the images in it...

Thanks for your answer.

My RX10 will automatically create dated folders in OSX when I use the WiFi transfer option FWIW, but those folders go to a specified location on the internal HDD.

I'd suggest looking at the same card on another computer. Take it to a store or something if you don't have access. If you have any Sony software on your PC system you may need to delete it.

How do you download the pics to your PC? Do you take the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader? Or do you connect the camera to the PC's USB port?

If transfer your pics from the camera to the computer by USB try changing your connection to "Mass Storage".

I saw this in another thread:

"Go to the last menu (preferences), second sub menu, and change the first option. Select Mass Storage as the USB Connection option. Good luck!"

I have the RX10 and a Macintosh so I don't know if this will help.

Solution
Hey, I didn't read your advice before trying it from a another post/thread, but it is the solution, thanks a lot

PS : Yes I was connecting it through cable and it was set on auto mode (so it uses MTP mode with win7)
