Great photos but…

I loved this camera. The zoom, the GPS, the colors in the photos — everything I wanted in a compact camera. The problem was dust. There was so much debris on the sensor after less than a month of casual shooting that I had to send it off for cleaning. In the interim I actually bought a second camera of the exact same model thinking I might have had a defective unit, but the exact same issue occurred.

Eventually I learned to disassemble the camera(s) and clean the sensors myself, but this was no easy feat, so when I decided it was time to upgrade I skipped the HX50V and went to an NEX 6. I do miss the compactness, but it’s nice to be able to take off the lens and wipe/brush/blow away dust particles as needed.

Nope; Virginia/DC. Humid, sure. Dusty, not so much.

I’ve owned several Canon and Panasonic compacts and never had issues with dust on the sensor until the HX20V. The only thing I can guess is that maybe there isn’t a great seal around the zoom and when you zoom in/out it sucks in dust, but that’s just a guess.
