I ordered a used RX100 III from Amazon Warehouse Deals with the following description:

Condition: Used - Very Good - Item is in original packaging, but packaging will come damaged. Item has no cosmetic imperfections. Item has been tested and is fully functional. All accessories are present and undamaged.

This is what I received today:

So far so good. Box seems pretty intact. All accessories are inside.

Then I take out the camera, and this is what I find:

So much for "no cosmetic imperfections"

Notice the make. That's right, it's a RX100 mk1 with a RX100 mk3 tag. Apparently whoever bought this new kept the RX100 III, attached the mk3 tag to their old, banged up RX100 and returned it as if it was the new one.

So much for "Amazon Inspected" too.

Thankfully, Amazon CS was great. They immediately apologized and sent a return label. I'm heading out to drop off at UPS right now.

Just a word of caution to anyone considering buying from Amazon's used dept. Not saying that it's all bad, I'm sure there are good experiences out there. I just didn't expect this from a supposedly Amazon inspected item.

Glad they are sorting it out. I'm curious to know as this site is owned by Amazon if this thread will be "disappeared" !! Will keep an eye on it.

Also appreciate the heads up--a cautionary story, to be sure. Amazon's ever the gentleman in these matters, though.

Glad they are sorting it out, I revently had a trade in refused for something as simple as a non oem eye cup. I have bought all my backpacks from the warehouse and remarkably I swear two were new even if marked as used. Everyone makes mistakes its how they react that makes the difference.

Here's to learning something new everyday, and remembering it the next.
I automatically check the Amazon Warehouse for anything I am buying from them, because (and I know things can go wrong) generally they understate the condition of what I have bought from them. I wanted an electric outdoor tool for Christmas and my wife didn't understand about buying it from Amazon Whse; when it arrived we sent back the one she bought brand new from Amazon for $120 (and gladly paid the $10 return shipping) and ordered one from the Whse for $70 less, as I had originally intended. I am confident it will be virtually as good and a whole lot cheaper.

I bought one lens too last year. Used-like new. When the box arrived, it was in perfect sealed condition. It was brand new.

It is?!?!?

That's too bad, looks like someone might have gotten one over on them. I've purchased quite a number of products, including cameras, via Warehouse Deals and they are usually top notch.

I have bought many used CDs through Amazon, and some appear to be new -- probably bankrupt stock or over-stocks bought up cheap by the dealer.

Just to chime in on Amazon Warehouse.

They're a 3rd party. Which has complicated my interaction with them.

I ordered a Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Monitor. I got a bubble pack envelope with only the SD card with manual/software on it.

Less relevant to this forum but relevant to this thread. Ordered a Fitbark (activity tracker for dogs -- don't judge, he has spinal and arthritis issues and he's overweight - so we wanted something to get an idea of when we're starving him too much and when he's just being a dog begging for treats). Anyway -- it came with the charging port mangled and unusable.

They're slipping (from their previous reputation), and now that they've added their own shipping department (Amazon Logistics), they've fallen even further. Amazon Logistics is the only shipping service I've had multiple problems with except for OnTrac, which is the bottom of the barrel.

..yes, needs to always be cautious..

..however, last month I purchased an Amazon Warehouse deal on a battery charger.. basically only saved in shipping & taxes from the original pricing.. the box was ruffed up, but the contents was fine..

..for me, I didn't mind chancing it, because it was not a delicate item, and it wasn't too expensive to begin with..

..Cheers..
