Hi,

I sold my Nikon equipment(d7100 and some cheap lenses) couple of months ago, due to money problems. I'm not a professional photographer, i just enjoy shooting. Taking photos is the most important reason for me to go outside..otherwise i sit on my butt playing games all day long.

I've been reading about Fuji gear for some time now and i ended up with two models in my head. X-T1 or X-E2. Then i read some rumors about X-Pro 2..looks like its going to be great..

So, what would you do? Would you get X-E2 with a 28 or 35mm lens... (and save the money for upcoming x-pro2)

or get X-T1 and buy X-Pro 2 if you need it or have the money :) ?

If you have money problems Fuji X is the Absolute Worst system to buy into. Lenses average $1000 each.

Past buying right now while the Fuji rebate is happening and you should do that fast to get multiple lenses so you are well covered upfront that is different.

Keep in mind what Fuji X does not have or do well. Mirrorless is not a DSLR in performance by any means. IF you know what you are getting into and have done a lot of research great. IF not you will have lost a lot of money switching.

To me it seems you have more not sure what to do with my money than anything else if that is the only reason to go outside, since you can take pictures inside as well.

Buy a good P&S camera an leave it at that. Get the Panasonic LX-100, FZ-1000 or Sony RX-10 or RX 100.

Fuji is a nice system but very expensive paper weight to not really use it. The Xpro-2 I would not wait for same as I would not wait for the Nikon D7300, it only counts if you can either buy it today or just save your money and wait or not OVER Buy camera gear.

People don't take you that seriously when you use point and shoot camera. :) Especially on photography sites etc..I can even make a small exhibition(have a project in mind) so mirrorless seems better for me.

I'm handicapped(wheelchair-no legs) so i can stop for a long time when i'm shooting a photo, focusing speed is not a problem.

I can order X-E2 for $1400(with 27mm kit lens). X-T1 is $400 more.

Which form factor do you like, dSLR style or rangefinder style? XT-1 is first, XE-2 is latter. X-Pro2 will be latter, too.

Need to save money? Get the 18-55 kit lens as part of a package, or get the 27mm pancake lens (around $300 new last I checked fleabay). Both lenses are good image quality for everyday shooting.

I actually own both cameras. I too was a Nikon shooter and I sold all my gear and went a little nuts and bought an XPro-1 and XE-2. Then when the XT-1 came out I sold the XPro-1 and got that.

This is what I learnt.

1. Don't get caught up in the "Wait for the new model" trap.
You never know what's coming and when, or how much it will cost.
So if you are looking to buy a camera - get one that's in your price range, that takes the images you like and feels right.

2. The XE-2 and the XT-1 have the same sensor (I think) so both will deliver the same image. That said the XT-1 has an amazing EVF (there is nothing else out there like it). Also the two cameras are pretty different, the XE-2 is more of a range finder design with the EVF over to the side, whereas the XT-1 is more like a small DSLR with the EVF in the middle - they are VERY different.

3. Fuji gear sells second hand very well. So whatever you get, in a couple of years (or earlier) you will be able to sell it no problem.

All that said, I'd go for the XT-1, it's just a better camera I think. I LOVE all the controls on the top (ISO and Bracketing etc. are all visible when the camera is off so I make less mistakes when I get excited). Also that EVF is, well, just fantastic.

Finally on lenses, I'd recommend starting with the primes that are out there. The 14, 35 & 56 are tack sharp, but they aren't cheep :-) Then you can wait for the new faster zooms coming out.

Have fun no matter what you buy, and don't get hung up on what people think (I got a load of crap going from a Nikon D4 to a Fuji XE-2, but I was MUCH happier :-))

Nothing wrong with waiting for the X-Pro2 at this point in time, as long as you think you'll be able to afford it (assume it will be more expensive than the X-T1 currently is). If there were no rumors, then I'd say go for the X-T1, but we seem to be close enough to a significant advancement that waiting is probably prudent, especially if you expect to keep whatever body you buy for several years.

I'd say look for a used X-E1 or X-E2 and slowly build up from there.

I was facing the same decision. X-T1 or X-E2. I went with the new X-T1 (Graphite Silver Edition). Don't regret it either! Beside the finish on the camera body, the menu system is much easier to understand than the one on the Olympus O-MD E-M1 - the other camera system I was looking at.

Hi, if fast autofocus is not a necessity I would get the xpro1. The current uk deal you get the 18 and 27mm for £750, the lenses brand new would run you close to the cost alone, in effect getting the xpro for next to nothing.

The xpro will have the same form factor as the xpro2 and the transition will be smooth. The xt1 is a great camera but body and lens will set you back about £1200, which i feel is a little much for a stop gap camera, the price on the xt1 will be hammered down when the xpro2 gets announced and released and you could take quite a loss selling on the used market, depreciation sets in quick with new camera news. I would invest in the lenses now and get a 1st generation body. Cheers, jon

I bought the XE-2 and not the XT-1 only because when I bought the XE-2 the XT-1 wasn't even on the market yet. Saved me around $600. I'm very satisfied with my purchase but will definitely upgrade especially if the next fuji camera has a fully articulated LED touch screen, a 24 megapixel CCD and killer wireless apps.

I had the same question a while ago, with more or less the same factors: many special offers (black Friday), rumour about the X-Pro2, price difference between the X-E2 and X-T1 ... But then I got the X-M1, and I'm very happy. If AF-speed is not a deciding factor, and in case you don't really care about an EVF, take a look at the X-M1. It delivers the same (excellent) IQ as the X-E1 and costs almost nothing at the moment. If you live in Europe, there's currently a kit on the French Amazon site, including the black X-M1, the 16-50 and the 27mm lens, all together for just 490 Euro, which is an unbeatable price. You get an entry packet into the Fuji-X system, and can save your money for more lenses and future bodies.

Comparing the planned firmware updates for the X-T1 and X-E2, Fuji seems to have decided that the X-E2 is a second tier product and will be concentrating on the X-T1 (for now). The two cameras were very similar in features, performance, and operation; but after the update the X-T1 will be significantly improved over the X-E2.

I agree. I'm not sure if Fuji is going to improve the X-E2's firmware beyond what was already done. The X-T1 firmware is at the state-of-the-art for Fujifilm right now.

Personally, I happen to like how the X-T1 feels in my hand over the rangefinder styling of the X-E2. The bigger/heavier lens balances better with the DSLR styling of the X-T1.

I also prefer the ergonomics of the X-T1 over the X-E2, including the extra dial and buttons. Using a larger eye cup, I really like the X-T1's EVF over the X-E2's.

If you like the rangefinder look of the X-E2 --- especially with the smaller primes --- I can see going that route. It can look smaller than the X-T1, which might be nice if you do street photography.

The money savings of going X-E2 over X-T1 isn't enough by itself to be worth it.

Rumors are rumors and it's quite possible that, rumors aside, the X-Pro2 will simply be the X-T1 in the X-Pro-1's body style with the X100T's viewfinder. So unless you really want the X-Pro's body style and viewfinder the X-T1 will give you everything you want.

PS. The rumors also say that the X-Pro2 will be even more expensive than the silver X-T1; considering how Fuji has forgotten how to make small, lightweight, and moderately priced lenses, I actually believe that rumor.

Ridiculously low price in the US. Gr8 picture quality, X-T1 like speeds .... sold my X-E1, got out of Fuji, then regretted, now got in with A1 waiting for Pro2 etc. Not missing my X-E1
