2 days ago we had a great show of Northern Lights here by the Eastern coast of Iceland so I had the opportunity to try out the LiveComp mode on E-M1.

Here are some results:

C & C appreciated.

Astonishing photos - love them!

What can I say - wow! Some real wall hangers there. The only thing I would change is darken the first one to make it more moody. Well done.

Thank you for your compliment, I´m glad you like them!

Daryl,

That's a good idea. I'll probably try to print it first the way it is (since the prints always come out darker than the image on screen) & see how it turns out. Maybe I'll just have to increase the contrast a bit.

Either way, a good point & thanks!

Beautiful.

Out of interest, what settings did you use for Livecomp ?

Hi Andrew,

I set the exposure time to 15 seconds / 20 seconds. I set the aperture to f/3.5 + manual focus and set the lens to near infinity mark.

I used ISO 800 & ISO 1000, depending on light.

I had the camera on tripod but there were some gusts of wind which ruined a couple of images.

Thanks for looking & commenting!

Very impressive exposures and interesting compositions. But I think the shot with the f/g rock "imitating" the background ridge is clever and poetic.

…a wonderful job recording it Parasin.

Many thanks for showing.

Cheers, geoff

Thank you Bob!

Well done Nikolas. I live in Central Minnesota USA and about 4 hours north we have many occasions for Northern Lights but I have yet to time my trips. These are very well done, with #3 the stand out for me, the curvature of the aurora along the mountain slope with the rock in the foreground, killer.

Thanks for your settings, appreciated. One question, is there an app of some kind you use to predict when the aurora will be present or is it hit and miss for you?

Best,

Bill

An impressive show and well captured. All well composed but especially 2 & 3 for me with the light flow imitating the land formations.

Amazing! Love the mood the pictures convey.

That said the first picture in the series is a little too bright for my taste.

Hi Bill,

I usually just look through the balcony window of my apartment, this was the view I was presented with before we went somewhere with less light pollution:

Otherwise I'm usually checking this site for Aurora forecast -

It seems to be fairly accurate.

However, it often does not mean I'll see them in a fjord surrounded by mountains; creating its own climate with clouds obstructing the view.

Thanks!

pede59,

You're not the only one with this opinion, see my reply to Daryl/sinkas. :)

These are beautiful. I really like the way your compositions show the aurora along with the landscape and the building.

Best regards,
Jeff
