Awesome, tho not sure 16-35mm really needs a SSM II upgrade (I used to own the first version and perhaps best wide angle lens I was owned). Think it would have been better served on 85mm, 135mm or 50mm even but that's just me.– Improved AF speed
– Updated design and weatherproof body
– Image Quality improvement (Reduce ghosting)

+1. The 16-35 is a great lens but expensive and heavy. I'd really prefer to see Sony offer a 17-40 f4 lens priced about 1/2 of the 16-35. UWA zooms are a weak spot for Sony full frame. Tamron does have a 15-30 lens coming out that is supposed to be released in A mount but don't think the price has been published yet.I shudder to think of the cost of an updated 16-35. Might see a few older models come onto the market hopefully![]()
Well. they are weather sealed. So it did take some engineering to update these lenses.Conspiracy theorists can now argue that these lens announcements are just a smart move to:
1) Prolong the illusion of commitment to A-mount by adding very minor tweaks to existing existing lenses;
2) Reduce used market re-sale value of current work-horse A-mount lenses (70-200/2.8, 24-70/2.8 and 16-35/2.8), thus increasing the price of switching to another brand. Existence of new generation alone will impact the used lens prices, even if new generation is more expensive.
Or perhaps this is real commitment to a product line and reason is improvement to make good products better, like weather sealing, faster AF, better lens element coating. If this is the case, then perhaps 85/1.4 and 135/1.8 are next in queue to get weather sealing and SSM.
Of course AF update might be for better compatibility with E-mount!
Which is it? You decide... Sony is sure good at confusing customers![]()
I agree, it is time for CZ85, CZ135 to update to SSM.wish they would improve the not-so-great bokeh of the 24-70. Ghosts handling wont cut it for me. Im not afraid of ghosts...soo, skipping
Pity about the lousy V2 updates from sony: Only adding weather sealing+better AF, while the optical issues stay unaddressed...meh...
meanwhile, the 2 lens which would REALLY need these non-optical upgrades (mainly SSM) stay untouched (CZ84,CZ135)
anyway, at least we see that sony didnt forgot completely about us

However, Sony is now putting all the resource in developing Full Frame E-mount Lens.
Therefore, the simplest way to launch new A-mount lens without using too many resource is renewing current A-mount lens, keep the original optic design and just renew the lens-coating, add weather seal and update the lens firmware.
If Sony decided to update the CZ135 with SSM along with a few other minor updates, I would be certainly one of the first to be scouring the couch cushions and car seats every bit of change I could find to order one.I agree, it is time for CZ85, CZ135 to update to SSM.wish they would improve the not-so-great bokeh of the 24-70. I am intrigued by this logic, care to elaborate?Proof that the A-Mount is dead

and increase the price by 30 %(as with the 70-200)
Yeah, I knew there was some price fluctuations in the early years (remember how the Zeiss 16-80 has gone up in price by over $200?). I was basing the price on what the G1's price was right before the release of the G2. If I recall correctly, it was at around $2000 for a while, excluding any promotions. I remember since I was keeping my eye on it as a potential purchase.Originally the 70/200 was $2400, an increase of 200 over the KM design...it did not sell, so Sony lowered the price to 1800 (probably below cost) and then raised that to 2,000. With the G2, it raised the price to 3,000 to limit market so resources could be put into E mount. I am sure it will go on sale for 2600 (200 over original G1) and that will be its natural price. If you followed this, you are better than this writer! :-D
