I really loved this camera. The color and white balance of this camera are amazing.

However, the new design on lens makes it not very robust. After nine months of use, the aperture failed and it started to give me overexposed pictures. Since it was still under warranty, I send it to Fuji to repair. They replaced the entire lens and seems to fix the problem at that time. But ten months later the aperture failed again and there is no warranty this time.

Therefore, I will recommend people who want to buy this camera to consider XQ1 instead. XQ1 looks very similar to XF1 but with a traditional lens, which means it won't have the same issue as XF1. It also has a better sensor so the image quality should be better then XF1.

The XF1 "Lens Error" issue is well reported. And... the issue is also now reported by one early user of the X30 - here .

Not only that, but no viewfinder would kill it for me. Besides being unsteady, you look like a schoolgirl holding it out in front of you. :)

From what I have read in this forum, I have come to the conclusion that the best time to buy a new Fuji camera is 10months to 1 year down after it is first introduced (just before a successor comes along). One could search the webs for problems experienced by early adopters. Most products have warranty only for a year. Make more sense to decide on purchase towards 10months to 1 year after a new product comes into the market.

The XF1 aperture problem has been mentioned many times. I wonder if Fuji played cheat by replacing with the same batch of parts?
