Finally the new C1P version 8 has arrived with an all new engine and new capabilities like more flexible layers, film grain, improved HDR and clarity....

Has anyone tested D810 NEFs with the new v8? What are your thoughts compared to ACR 8.6 processing?

Thanks

It looks like they have a 60 day free trial, why not try it and let us know what you think? :)

I've just purchased it, but there is one big issue for us D810 users if you shoot uncompressed files, it isn't supported! :-x

I have been previously using COP7 and it is my favourite RAW converter, better than ACR especially the workflow, but also the output results. COP8 output looks even better and has some excellent new features, like WB adjutments in mask layers.

Hi Lance,

do you really mean "uncompressed" NEF files are not supported or "compressed" files are not supported?

Sorry, I´m currently on vaccation and have no chance to test v8 in the next 14 days...

Thanks!

Just what should be there, now local adjustment brushes using layers can do:

- heal and clone

- white balance

- highlight and shadow

- some various other that were not there before

Wonderful. I already got the update.

Other sundry additions, film grain etc.

Great update.

Only thing I saw that niggles my mind, they now offer subscription as well as outright license purchase.

I hope that in future they continue license purchase and dont switch to full subscription model, that would not be my choice.

GREAT software!!!!!!!!!!

If you post a couple of sample files in various formats (uncomppressed and compressed etc) Dropbox or such, I will TRY to process tonight and let you know, will post back JPEG's.

Should have time, if not hopefully tomorrow.

I purchased the upgrade and tested this morning.

This is what Phase One says:

Hello Ed, In 8 you can not use uncompressed D810 files. Only compressed 12 adn 14 bit files. It is something we need to fix on update. 7.2.4 will work however if you wish to continue to use that for the D810 files.

D810 dng, tiff and jpg work OK. I always use uncompressed so I am back to my alternative developers.

Added: Once you open an uncompressed NEF in ver 8 it no longer displays correctly in ver 8 or in ver 7.2.4. As long as you do not open a D810 NEF in ver 8 it is OK in the beta 7.2.4. Even the D810 NEFs that become corrupted in ver 8 are OK in Nikon NX-D and LR.

Version 8 does not corrupt the NEF uncompressed files. To see them correctly in the beta version you need to remove them from the catalog or session and re-import them. Then the beta version functions as before.

This was a real bugbear of mine and I wrote to them several times. Thankfully they have responded and fixed this oversight.

GREAT software!!!!!!!!!!
Except for not supporting uncompressed RAW, yes it is the best RAW converter there is, IMO.

likely will be fixed in updates. I have found that in the version 7, early on there were a few update releases, I remember having to update two or three times fairly quickly.

Some also complained of crashes with 7, but I never had that.

And yes, it was a bit of a thing, not having the clone tools in the local adjustments. Glad they are there now. I used to use ACDsee Pro 7 when I needed cloning etc. Another great program. Likely now that C1 7 has the cloning/ heal, I wont bother to update ACDsee when a new release comes out, will just keep it as a back up and for specific files.

It does seem that the C1 people listen well to the needs.

As you, *I* see something in the files that others don't seem to have, or get there as easy. ACDsee conversion is also quite good however.

Cheers
