A7s focusing speed in low light

Hey guys! Really need some opinions here as I currently own a Sony A7 and a Canon 6D and am looking to replace the 6D with the Sony A7s for low light shots/videos (mostly photos at the moment). My problem is I often shoot parties/events at night with really spontaneous photo opportunities. As I'm walking past perhaps people want a photo together, or someone might be doing something that they'd want documenting for later.

My question is, my canon 6D requires the external flash IR autofocus to focus correctly at times, and the Sony A7s would be lacking this connectivity to the flash altogether, so is there a way to achieve the same/better autofocusing speed/accuracy on the A7s to the 6D?

I know the Sony A7s can autofocus at -4EV which beats the canon, but it's the speed and accuracy that I'm concerned about!

Hi

Canon 6D has a -3 EV AF sensitivity and a dual-cross AF sensor. A7s will focus. But that is a matter of speed. The dual cross PDAF sensor will be certainly doing better than CDAF. My Canon 5D3 focusses faster until a certain degree of light, then it fails completely. The A7s focusses in almost dark, but slow. Advantage of A7s, I see through the viewfinder the full scene clearly and can do manual focus!

Cheers

Ryan, the a7s will Focus in Lower Light , but it will be slower

So in darkness that other cameras would fail to even get a AF lock the a7s will. BUT, it will not be faster when Both has enough light but low.

Which lens makes a difference too. the 35mm f2.8 ZA FE imho is the fastest so far.

And the announcement on the new 35mm f1.4 "says" it will be FAST on AF. :) ... if it is FASTER than the 35mm f2.8 ZA FE that would be something. My guess is it will be. "New Tech"

I shoot a lot of Night Events (every week) and I have NOT found the AF asst to be any help vs the annoyance.

Hope this helps,

HG
