The following could be said for many modern DSLRs--not just the D810 shown here. However, having recently come from a D700 to the D810, I'm blown away by the capability. The shot below was taken with the 60mm AF-S, f8, ISO 160, and at a local shelter, thus justifying the fancy decor.

Anyway, I love the ability of being able to pull a decent size image out of crap, and being able to make something with it. Even with the massive crop, I could still make a decent 8x10. Nik Silver Effex gets a nod for the conversion.

Our abilities have broadened in post, we can push and pull, burn and dodge, change perspective, and crop like crazy. It's a great time to shoot. Oh, and yeah, I know, get it right in camera, but try that with shelter cats.

The D700 was obsolete in terms of IQ for the 35mm format the day it was released. The Canon 16 MP 1Ds II was released in 2004, the Canon 21 MP 1Ds III in 2007 & if you only count affordable FFs, it was obsoleted two months after release by the Canon 5D 2. If you only count Nikon cameras, then the D3x obsoleted it in Dec of 2008, 6 months after release.

Of course, it depends on your definition of obsolete and perhaps the use of that term is a bit of hyperbole.

Rick Knepper, photographer, shooting for pleasure. It is better to have It and not need It than need It and not have It. Various RAW comparisons at Link below. Includes 5D3 vs D800E (new uploads), 5D3 vs. 6D, Zeiss lenses etc. https://app.box.com/s/71w40ita6hrcfghojaie

And release of Nokia 808 smartphone with 41MP sensor made all cameras, but one Pentax and some Hasselblads obsolete. Or if you like to be strictly pedantic release of D800 make all FF DSLR completely and utterly useless.

God on ya - keep coning those pixels, looks like you unable to do and comprehend much more :-)))
